What should I do if immigration can't read the stamp in my passport in Thailand?

Okay, re my post earlier, I have a problem now.

I went to Udon Thani immigration today....the guy behind the desk said he cannot read the stamp properly and that I should go to Bangkok to have it amended...that’s not going to happen

What to do?

I’m going to contact the Royal Thai Embassy in London and see what they have to say about this matter; I’m pretty sure they won’t do anything but it’s worth a try. Maybe they can contact immigration in Udon and tell them to get their shit together and just stamp my visa that I paid for?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user encountered a problem at Udon Thani immigration where the staff couldn't read the stamp in their passport. They were advised to go to Bangkok for clarification, which the user wants to avoid. Comments from the community suggest verifying if the entry was correctly logged, staying on the visa exempt entry, considering an extension for that period, or performing a border run to activate the unused tourist visa. It's emphasized that checking passport stamps immediately after issuance is crucial to avoid such issues.

Seems that we are clear. The visa is not used. So the options are or apply for an Extension of Stay of your Visa Exempt Entry, or a border run to activate your visa or visit Bangkok Immigration to get a correct stamp. And for next time, you hand your passport to an official and stamps are made inside the passport, you check them carefully. Good luck.

I think i would want to be sure though its still not a stamping error and the visa wasn't logged in the system?

Keep on topic boyz (
@Rob***
&

) this isn't a topic about the proz and conz of the Thai Elite Card/Visa. It's about what the O/P should do to correct an errant stamp. ;)

Those I/O's work incredibly hard under challenging circumstances!

I've got more alterations in my passport than Sevey Ballasteros had gold clubs 😂

it was more the fact i was thinking they had put the visa through the system, failed to cross it through and used the wrong stamp. I'm not sure then what would happen if you tried to use the visa again.

I hear the airports have been busy this week so could of been some distraction. I guess at the end of the day its much of a muchness. Either go to Bangkok or do a visa run.

He should have checked his passport to avoid that mess.

That's why I wanted them to state whether the stamp was a ผ.30 <- which is the 30 day visa exempt entry stamp, OR a TR. because if they didn't strike thru their visa and give them a TR stamp (even if they dated it wrong) they're only here on a visa exempt entry.

I had a guy a couple weeks ago who entered at the southern land border and was stamped in without using his tourist visa. He tried to get the stamp corrected in Bangkok and they wouldn't let him, so he waited 30 days, went to the Phu Nam Ron border with Myanmar, stamped out of thailand in&out of Myanmar and then right back IN to thailand on his un-used tourist visa from penang. :O They stamped him in for 60 days on it without a problem.

@Adam *******
, IF what I just posted IS true your solution is

Stay here for the 30 days on the visa exempt entry stamp you got,

THEN

either apply for a 30 day extension on it

OR

Go to a border stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and stamp right back IN to thailand on the unused tourist visa that's already IN your passport.

Okay, Adam Strong let's look at this logically okay?

If I remember correctly you did NOT get the tourist visa marked used or stamped with a date when you entered the country <- is that correct?

^ which means

IF you didn't get the visa struck out with a pen and stamped used you didn't USE it and are here on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

In fact I'd bet that your entry stamp has ผ.30 on it not TR. <- is that correct?

the man said he can not read it not that it is the wrong stamp. go back a different day get someone else

nothing wrong with my stamps, but thanks. I'm good for another 90 days. Been here almost two years. Teaching . I hope to get out of BKK and go North next year in April when my wife retires from teaching. She has a house and a few acres there.

....and please get it fixed sooner rather than later!

Good luck with your stamp correction Thomas!

I reported once in the wrong district. That one is on my Thai wife. but it worked out, but the drivers license agent made it very difficult on me .
Robert ********
I'm lucky to have never had a difficult agent while living here full time....
Thomas *****
yes big difference they correct mistakes by hand all the time. I have one hand written correction in my passport. We all know that from time to time we have to deal with difficult agents.
Robert ********
Considerable difference between a yellow book and a passport stamp, but DO try and please report back....Good Luck :-)
Thomas *****
does not hurt to try. in my yellow book yhe listed me as Canadian not American. I went back the next day and a different person crossed out Canada and wrote in American

Good luck with that!!

that’s a good idea!

You are responsible for your passport. You got a wrong stamp but found that out much later. You have two options, go to Bangkok and get it corrected, or take a bus to the Nong Khai border, leave Thailand and come back in using the Tourist Visa. And make sure the stamp in correctly.

You can hope, but it did not work that way. Now it is time for the alternative option.

I was hoping immigration would just stamp invalidated on their original entry stamp and just stamp my 60 day visa.
