What should I do if I want to extend my stay in Thailand for studying but don't have enough days left on my visa?

This is my first visit to Thailand.

July 13 I got a tourist type visa in Israel.

July 19 on entry I got 30 days allowance.

I thought I was going to get 60 days because that's what I heard everyone else got and possibly was told so at embassy when applying for visa. My mistake-I didn't check how much I got.

August 30 As soon as I realized I have overstayed I arrived at the immigration and payed a fine for that and extended by 30 days.

I would like to stay here indefinitely. I understood that a good way to be permitted to remain for a year is an education visa. So I've found a school to study Thai language (which I would very much like to learn) and now I don't have enough days to apply. They ask for "30 to 45 days" of allowed stay remaining when applying.

My question is what should I do now, a visa run or a border run? Are these the common terms?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially entered Thailand on a tourist visa but received only 30 days of permission instead of the expected 60 days. After overstaying, they paid a fine and extended their visa by another 30 days. They wish to stay indefinitely and have found a language school for an education visa, but they lack the required time to apply. They inquire about the best course of action, specifically whether to undertake a visa run.

Visa run :)

I guess you can make sure that you put visa number to Arrival/Departure card (TM. 6) on your entry to Thailand. Then also make sure stamped 60 days on your passport page as
@T**
mentioned and stamped "Used" on your visa sticker at the passport control desk as soon as you get your passport back from the officer.

IF you bought a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Israel before you came here and were stamped in for 30 days when you arrived you were stamped in WRONG.

You should have been stamped in for 60 days NOT 30. Now truthfully you should have looked at your stamp BEFORE you walked away from the desk where you got stamped in.

BUT even if you didn't notice it, as long as you caught it before the the date you should have been stamped in for came up you should NOT have been charged for overstay at all. They would have just corrected your stamp and then sold you the 30 day extension.

Yeah exactly the officer prolly didnt even see the visa and stamped you a 30day one and exactly like Tod said, you get out the country and come right back in, point at the actual visa lol and you will get that one stamped, granted 60days stay and you can extend again for another 30 days as per usual for 1900baht.

Wow,
@T**
. That's so helpful. Yes, my entry stamp does have "ผ 30" on it. Okay. Border run, it is!

They definitely didn't mark that visa used. You could exit the country and come back in on it to get the 60 days you were supposed to have gotten when you arrived if you want to

As long as you do it before 12 Oct 2018 you'd get stamped in on it no problem.

Shahar Or That visa wasn't used when you stamped into the country. I bet on your entry stamp for 30 days it says ผ.30 like this one

IF your visa has no marks on it (meaning it's not been canceled) you could in theory just exit the country, turn around and come right back in ON that visa seeing as you didn't use it to enter the country.

Just so you know ALL stamps for tourist visas are for 60 days. There is no 30 day tourist visa stamp. Seeing as you were stamped in for 30 days I would be that you have a ผ.30 on the entry stamp you have in your passport.

He was wrong, IF you bought a tourist visa from the thai consulate BEFORE you came here and when you arrived they stamped you in for 30 days you were stamped in WRONG.

Did they write or stamp "used" on your tourist visa that you got from the consulate when you entered the country?

This morning I was at the immigration asking just that. Suggesting that a mistake has been made giving me 30 days and that I should have gotten 60 days. I showed my passport. He looked at my visa and stamps. He said there was no mistake. That for this visa I should have gotten 30 days on entry, just like I did.
