Hi friends.

Question: When I returned to Bangkok on Feb 21 the immigration office incorrectly gave me a 60 day visa stamp, instead of the normal DTV 180 day stamp. I just realized it now as I was preparing for the 90 day report.

Can an incorrect visa exemption stamp at Chaeng Wattana when the error was the officer's?

Thanks
Answer summary
The user experienced an error during immigration where they were given a 60-day visa stamp instead of the expected DTV 180-day stamp upon returning to Bangkok. The community provided advice on steps to rectify this misunderstanding, emphasizing that the user should return to the airport immigration to get the stamp corrected. Several experiences were shared, illustrating that many have faced similar issues with minor clerical errors. The user successfully corrected the stamp after following community advice and received their 90-day report on the same day.

I had similar, bkk immigration gave me a 30day tourist stamp instead of when my retirement expired. I just went to my local immigration (who'd issued my retirement) and they put it correct.

Gerar Teuben It really should be a standard operating procedure, an automatic reflex to check the 'permitted to stay until' date that gets stamped in the passport right after you get your passport back from the officer. Take your steps away from the booth, then look at the stamp. Every time. Is the correct date stamped in? If not, retreat and bring it to the officer's attention. At that time. Not finding out a mistake's been made days, weeks, months later. The onus is on you to make sure you've gotten the correct date stamped in the passport.

Update:

I followed the advice of some of the members in this group, went back to the airport and got the IO to fix the dates.

Then I went to Immigration Division 1 and got the 90 day report done same day.

Everyone was super nice, although you have to be firm but polite. Several times they said I needed to come back tomorrow or go back to the airport. I said, "I was already there, can I get this done today?" with a big smile.

A lot of the comments were very negative, fear mongering, affected my sleep last night. For anyone else coming across this issue, it's a simple procedural fix and it happens often.

I had a similar case when I first arrived in Thailand 8 years ago on a tourist visa. They should have stamped me in for 60 days but stamped in only for 30. When I reaized it and went to Phuket immigration, they told me, "either pay 1000 THB and we will fix it here or go to BKK airport and they will correct it for free". I chose the first option. Since you seem to be in Bangkok, I would just take a taxi to the airport and go to airport immigration.

Can you give us a picture of the stamp? Because it’s possible you’re missing something. They’re pretty good about the stamps.

No they will blame you and charge you overstay.

Do not try to argue with them either. You should have mentoned it at the time you were stamped.

One time they had to restamp my passport 3 times when I entered.

Another time like you I did not check and was fined, even though they got it wrong.

Officially it has to be corrected by the same officer at the airport who made the mistake.

You can try the immigration office but most likely you will be sent to the airport specifically as you are in Bangkok.

That’s why it’s so important to check the stamp in your passport before you leave the airport.

Gerar Teuben this Happen with my Wife. She have re entry visa and mistakenly given Tourist visa. And I called immigration Helpline at Chaeng wattana after 3-4 Days and she explained me to either go to airport or can come to Immigration office. And It is rectified very easily. Simple process and All are very helpful too.

This case Overstay By Technical so have to understand with them procedure. Still I feel Can Rectify if have proper documents.

I’ve never heard of a 180 day stamp. Even when I have a 6 month tourist visa they only stamp 60 days hence the need for visa runs. When I had 12 month Ed visa, it was a 90 day stamp and visa run. 🤷‍♂️ Ridiculous system, but This is Thailand. 🤦‍♂️😢

He has a DTV visa which will be stamped in for 180 days.

You had probably a ED multiple entry visa from the Thai embassy which is valid for 1 year but each entry is good for 90 days.

You need to leave the country pay overstay fine and come back and get another stamp ..do it now …if your caught by police at a traffic stop you could be deported and not allowed back in for a period of time

Man you are in deep shit. Why wouldn't you look at the stamp when you entered? You're on overstay, you might get booted

now you need be lucky, Rich G. Wan. Technically, you are on an overstay, should you run into a police check. However, you can still get the stamp corrected at the BKK airport Immigration (and nowwhere else). After it got corrected, that overstay will evaporate

I think you’re screwed. But you need to check with ppl who actually make these decisions.

They are never required to give you anything. So if you didn’t get 180 you didn’t.

You have overstayed now and it could even mess up future entries.

Assuming you got 180 isn’t the officers error. It is yours.

Talk to them and see if they will work with you. But you’ll need special consideration and no one of fb can do that.

Immigration is very black and white. You either are there legally or not.

I am from Canada and we only get 60 then can extend for 90.

Melissa Batch You are on a tourist on arrival 60 day visa, his situation is totally different and more of a clerical error that can be corrected by returning to airport that made the error.
Kadeem ********

Melissa Batch your information is so wrong it’s unreal..

Quick trip to the airport explain and get it corrected.. plus an under 30 day overstay won’t stop you entering thailand providing the fine was paid. And no removal.

If you only received the 60 day stamp in your passport and you havent applied at an Immigration office prior to the 60 days ending then technically you have been on overstay since the 21st of April 🤔

Good luck, you're gonna need it !

Rich G. Wan it’s just a mistake. Take your proper Documents and DTV Visa And they will make it rectify. You can either go to the airport or Nearest Immigration Office ie Chaeng wattana. All are very helpful. You can call and ask also to them about possible solution at Call centre 02-141-9889 or 1178. Numbers may vary. Can check online also.

Rich G. Wan I believe you need to go back to Bangkok and hope they correct it. Otherwise, you're on overstay.

You can try but most likely you will need to return to wherever you got the incorrect stamp and have it corrected there
