What options do I have to extend my stay in Thailand after forgetting to transfer the required funds for my marriage extension?

Hi everyone! My name is Diego and I am from Costa Rica. I am married to a Thai national and currently staying in Thailand under an extension of stay based on marriage. My extension is about to expire (February 20) and I realized I forgot to transfer the 400.000 baht needed to apply for this extension again. What are my options now? I know I cannot apply for this extension while being in Thailand because of this problem. But would it be possible for me to apply for a marriage visa from out of Thailand? Or go out and come back as a tourist and start the process to apply for the extension of stay based on marriage again? I am very confused at the moment, since also I have been told that the extension of stay based on marriage and marriage visa are open to apply only for married couples with Thai children, which is not my case. I don’t know if this is correct. I hope you can help me, I would appreciate any information. Thanks in advance! Greetings.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Diego, originally from Costa Rica, is facing issues with his visa extension in Thailand based on marriage to a Thai national. With his extension expiring soon, he forgot to transfer the necessary funds to apply for it again. He seeks guidance on whether he can obtain a marriage visa from outside Thailand or return as a tourist to start the process anew. Community members suggest two primary options: 1) apply for a 60-day family visit extension to allow time for the funds to season in his bank account, or 2) leave Thailand to get a year-long Non-O visa at a Thai consulate, which does not require financial proof and offers unlimited entries for a year.

It comes down to whether you have the funds to transfer in.

If you DO, transfer it in NOW, then go and get the 60 day visit family extension to give the time you need for the funds to be seasoned in your account the 2 months before you apply for the marriage extension

However

If you don't have the funds to transfer in, don't even bother with the 60 day extension.

Just go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai for 5000baht.

That visa does not require any financial proof to get. It's valid for unlimited entry for a year from the date it's issued. You get stamped in for 90 days when you enter. When that runs out, you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and right back into thailand to get a NEW 90 day stamp. You do that for the whole year the visa is valid for.

you can get that 60 day visit thai family extension ONE time per entry so if you haven't taken it since you last entered the country (when ever that was) you should be able to get it without too much issue at all for 1900baht at the immigration office where you got your extension issued

That's a tough thing to "forget" πŸ˜•

You could apply for a 60 day visit thai family extension based on marriage to a thai and that would buy you the time to get the 400K baht seasoned in your thai bank account for 2 months.

OR you could leave the country and get a new Non-O visa at a thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao.

There is no rule about having to have children to get a marriage extension, there are two separate extension types one for marriage to a thai and one for raising thai children,

This Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai that you get in Savannakhet Lao.. can you renew this visa consecutively each year when it runs out?

@Bill *******
, you can't renew ANY visa or extension, πŸ˜• they run out when they run out.

You either slog back over to savannakhet and BUY another visa

OR

you apply for a yearly extension of stay by meeting the financial requirements and submitting the correct documents at your immigration office..

ok thanks.. thats the information i was looking for.. if i was able to buy another visa after it run out. And if i could do that year after year. Im not sure how many people know about this visa as I've never heard anyone mention it before. To me.. that would be the way to go if you don't mind traveling into Laos. Savannakhet is about 200 kms from me. I appreciate the information
