TLDR : Answer Summary
If you forgot to obtain a re-entry permit while on a trailing spouse extension of stay in Thailand, you will unfortunately need to start the process over again as your visa is now void. It is generally advised to apply for a multi-re-entry permit at the same time you get your visa extension in the future to avoid this issue. When you return to Thailand, you might have to enter on a visa-exempt basis or apply for a new Non-O visa, but it's essential that your spouse is in Thailand to assist with the re-application process.

that will depend on what her husband is on. If he's on a Non-O for retirement it's highly unlikely but if he's on something else it may be possible

Start over, from the very beginning.

I would recommend to you, in future, that whenever you get an extension of stay, get a multi-re-entry on that same day. This is what I do, so I never forget.
Your visa/extension is now void so you'll need to start over by applying for a new Non-O visa if you can. What visa is your spouse on?

I had thought as much... Thanks for the responses... I'm so cross with myself. So I just come back in visa exempt. Can I start the process while my husband is away? Or does he need to be in the country?
which remains a BIG question, as many embassies have discontinued issuing "trailing spouse Non-Imm-O visa" if the husband doesn't hold an Extension out of a minimum of a Non-Imm-O/A visa by himself (a Non-O not being accepted in this case)
