METV - Proof of accomodation

Following the advice of a member of this group, I'll apply for METV visa.

My question is related to the accomodation, how do you manage booking a place for a month, at distance and without even being able to visit and know if it suits you? I'm used to stay 2-3 nights to make sure the place is adequate before booking for long term. Morover, a tourist isn't supposed to travel and explore the country?

I'm thinking about booking a random cheap hostel for a month on booking.com that allows cancelation, the time I get the visa. Once there, planning to visit different apartments and choose the right place or just travel around.

Have anyone done that? Would this work?

Thanks for your input ! 🫶

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on how to provide proof of accommodation while applying for a METV visa, as they prefer to stay in a place for a short duration before committing long-term. They are considering booking a low-cost, cancellable hostel as a temporary solution until they arrive and find a suitable long-term rental. A commenter warns that some consulates have strict requirements for proof of accommodation that may not accept cancellable bookings, suggesting the user book the cheapest hostel and request confirmation from the establishment.

Some consulates have pretty crazy requirements for the METV since Covid.

These requirements are pretty similar to what the STV required and they were very strict on those.

You had to show proof of payment like they say, including the tax ID of of the entity you paid it to.

I doubt a cancelable booking would work.

One option is to find the cheapest hostel possible and book one month and pay and ask them for the confirmation that is being asked for. You'll be out the money but sometimes you can find it for as low as $3 per night.

Thanks Brandon, conditions that make no sense to me... The hostel option isn't bad, but I rather pay 100$ for a better accommodation with a legit real estate agency. By chance, do you know a reliable one that can provide payment receipt, contact details, tax ID of owner ?

you wouldn't actually stay at the hostel, you'd just be using the booking for your visa.
