I am in the process of getting health insurance to get an extension based on my OA visa. Is there anyone with experience at Udon Thani? I can’t get a clear answer on what the effective date of the policy should be.

I came in on a non O-A (over 50) right before the new health insurance rule so I need to get insurance before I border bounce in late September (assuming that the borders open in time). So, this isn't strictly visa-related but I have two questions:
(1) How long a process is it to get insurance? Can it be done online in minutes or do I need to plan X days/weeks ahead of when I want to bounce?
(2) Do you generally pay for an entire year up front or is it monthly? I would prefer not to pay for an entire year if I end up having to leave the country because of border/travel restrictions.

Available in Thailand from this Thai Agent...policy is from LMG Thailand.
your O-A insurance needs to be a one year policy to coincide with the stamped one year Extension of Stay you receive when getting the extension at Thai Immigration.
You cannot stop and re-start the policy when you travel outside Thailand and return.
There are affordable O-A policies available which have the option to have a high deductible which greatly reduces the policy cost.
Here is an example of what I mean. Issued by one of the Thai approved insurance companies and meets the minimum O-A policy requirements.
Shop around and you will find good choices for your O-A extension of stay.
Good Luck..

I think those questions should be asked by a licensed insurance agent. They would know the answer.

You can get a 1 year Extension of Stay or until the valid until date of your health insurance, which ever one comes first

What is the ending date of your current permission to stay date?
The OA policy insurer should be able to write the policy effective date to match with your new extension date.

I can get the effective date for any date. The policy is being written now. My admitted to date is 27-AUG-2020. I’m looking for specific experiences at Udon
thank you. Possibly others will reply. Do you forsee a problem? If so what?
The insurance companies will adjust the health policy dates to coordinate with your OA extension date.

Some offices require the effective date to be the application date, some require it to be the extension date. I may need to make the 150km round trip, just to ask.
