Can I apply for a 12-month extension on a Non O-A visa at an immigration office or do I need to leave Thailand before my visa expires?

I have searched this site but unable to get a definitive answer to the following. My wife and I are here on Non O-A multiple entry visas, expiring on the 19th September. My question do we have to leave Thailand and reenter before the expiry date to receive the 12 month extension or can the extension be done at an immigration office. I am aware we need the required health insurance to cover this extension period. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the process for extending their Non O-A multiple-entry visas for another 12 months, specifically whether they must leave Thailand before their visas expire or if they can apply for the extension at a local immigration office. A response clarifies that they can either leave and re-enter to reset their stay based on the visa or apply for a one-year Extension of Stay at an immigration office, provided they meet certain requirements including funds, health insurance, and necessary documentation.

Two different things.

IF the visa is still valid you can leave and re-enter the country to get a new 1 year of stay based on the visa but also depending on validation date of health insurance.

OR

you can apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay at local Immigration Office but than you need to meet requirements like funds in a Thai bank account and health insurance and copies of address registration and passports.

Sorry just a little confused I’ve been here in Thailand for over five years now and never been asked for health insurance documents when getting my new yearly EofS ever. Is this something new!?

@Martin *******
Than I guess you never entered Thailand using the Non Immigrant O-A visa.

that’s correct so the guy changing to a EofS from a O-A visa would have health insurance. Didn’t know that thank you.
