Another insurance question...Sorry: My O-A retirement expires on 13 December 2019. I purchased the requisite Thai Long Stay health insurance for one year beginning 1 September 2019 ( I did this to close up my large deductible on another policy which renewed on 1 September 2019). The question is whether my Thai Long Stay policy would cover me for the next extension beginning on 13 December 2019 given, at that time the remaining policy period would be a little less than 9 months.

I think there will be issues with insurance policies being in sync with visa extension time frames. I think some (if not most) companies will not sell policies by the month ie they only sell policies for full year coverage,

I had some time today and decided to stop by immigration before I called my insurance company to extend my coverage to the renewal date of my 2020 extension. What they told me is that immigration would adjust my extension to coincide with insurance end date.Thus, my extension for 2020 will end on 1 September 2020, not 13 December 2020. I am happy with that as there is now no need to deal with any insurance company issues. I do not mind to have a shorter extension period. FYI, I was their first O-A extension situation to come in the door since the new regulations. They spent a bit of time to sort it all out and talk with the relevant folks. They wanted to make sure that they were correct on one hand and that I would be comfortable with the end result. This last aspect was important to both of us as we have a very good relationship which has developed over the past 10 years.

In essence you will buy 4 months of the O-A policy to sync with your O-A dates together.

The insurance company you purchased the O-A compliant policy with will sync the effective dates of your health policy with that of your O-A permission to stay date. Contact the insurance company.
