Good morning 🙏🏼 I’m looking at extending my oa visa for another year but the health insurance premium has increased by more than 50% as I turned 66 this year. Can you please advise on the minimum cover required by immigration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your OA visa in Thailand, the minimum health insurance coverage required by immigration is still set at 100,000 USD. Despite discussions of potentially lowering this requirement to 400,000 baht, no changes have been enacted. If health insurance premiums are a concern, consider switching to a NON-O visa, which does not require health insurance though it's not advised to live without it.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Instead of using the “Non O-A” Visa you could always switch over to “Non-O” Visa which doesn’t require Health Insurance.

It’s NOT recommended to live in Thailand w out insurance BUT that’s your choice.

It’s very subjective but I didn’t see any increase back in February. I used IMG.

Fwiw. 🤷‍♂️

normally in Thailand the increases are related to age and jump every 5 years. So 61, 66, 71, etc.

The coverage is still 100K USD

There was talk it would be reduced back to 400K baht but that was never passed by the government so it's still 100K USD

you can look at the available thai insurance companies for OA visa holders here

Correct, (y) an OA visa/extension is for a year, so you need coverage for the whole year you'll get the extension for. As they are applying for another year extension (meaning they already HAVE the mandatory insurance) their next policy will start the day this one expires and run a year

things are likely to be different next year, let alone 10 years. I wouldn't spend too much time researching this early.
