TLDR : Answer Summary
To transport your deceased wife's ashes back to Thailand, you generally need a death certificate, a cremation certificate, and possibly a letter from the funeral home. Most travelers report that ashes can be carried in hand luggage without trouble at customs, but it's advisable to check with the airline and potentially contact the Thai embassy for confirmation on any specific requirements. Overall, many users shared experiences indicating that transporting ashes is relatively straightforward once you have the necessary paperwork.

I had no idea you needed paperwork. I brought my grandparents here. They made me show the ashes in BKK at the airport. I was under the impression they were worried they were drugs. He just let me pass.

My sister recently passed. The funeral home/ crematorium give the certificate, including identification w in or sttached to the ashes. Better call the airline to be sure for transport.

Sorry for your loss. In the US we lost a loved one. The people doing the cremation told us the paperwork is a real hassle if you want to spread the ashes anywhere. They suggested it maybe easier just to do the thing, skipping the paperwork. My apologies if my suggestion is offensive (travel with the ashes in suite case).

Sorry for your loss. You will need a death certificate with the cause of death on it. If itโ€™s in Thai it will need to be translated into English.

My condolences. I am not sure if there is a specific list for Thailand. My daughter brought my sons ashes to Thailand to be interred with me when I go. All she had was the death certificate, the crematorium certificate and a note from the Undertaker. She wrapped the urn in a towel in her hold baggage. On arrival at BKK she went through customs and showed them and they just said OK. The airline didnโ€™t query anything on checking either.
