With the current travel ban, can a Thai national (and naturalized US citizen) enter Thailand from the US, with ether a Thai or US passport? The reason is because of impending family death. (Sorry if this has been asked before). Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai national who is also a naturalized US citizen should enter Thailand using their Thai passport to bypass entry restrictions. They will need to provide a Fit to Fly certificate from a doctor and a letter from the Thai Embassy, both issued within 72 hours prior to travel. Entry with a US passport may not be allowed without meeting specific entry requirements for foreigners.

Thais must have a letter from the Thai Embassy in the country where you are now with the ‘fit-to-fly' health certificate to enter Thailand.

Foreigners have to have work permit if not specially approved.

You would have to use your Thai passport. My wife flew from London yesterday and the person she was travelling with had both Thai and UK passports. She was told at check in she had to use the Thai one.

Plus, you would need the additional documentation that is currently required; A Fit to Fly letter from a doctor, and a letter from a Thai embassy or consulate confirming that they have approved the journey. Both of which need to be issued less than 72 hours before departure.

For details on how to do that, contact your local Thai embassy.

Good idea. Thank you.

Expect the phone lines to be VERY busy. Check their website or Facebook page first, they should have notices posted about how to go about getting this done.

Thank you. I did read about the fit-to-fly documentation; but I did not know about needing an approval letter from the Thai consulate. Unfortunately, our local Thai consulate (in LA) is closed due to the pandemic. Very difficult situation we're in. Thanks.

entering on a thai passport wouldn't be a problem.

BUT I don't they they'd get in on their US passport without meeting the entry requirements for foreigners entering the country

At this point, we're not even sure if she'd be able to get in to Thailand. Tough situation.

Thank you. Yes, I was thinking the same thing - even if she entered with her Thai passport, not sure if she can come back in to the US with her US passport.
