What options do I have for extending my stay in Thailand after failing the education visa requirements?

I answered on a tourist visa. I signed up for language classes but after 5 months I wasn't able to pass the ministry of education test to be granted another extension for education. My school then said I could apply for the covid-19 exemption which I did two weeks ago. I'm 6 months into a 1-year lease where I currently live in Bangkok. I'm worried about not being granted another covid-19 extension. What other options do I have.

I was even thinking about signing up for Muay Thai classes just to get another ED Visa.

Any help would be appreciated.

What was the language test like?

I wonder what your good reasons are to stay in Thailand, as education doesn't seem to be good enough 😂

Preach away... I don't mind... there are several ways to stay long term in Thailand. Elite, Business/work, education, over 50, Investment, Marriage, religious studies and theres probably others. Where are you from? Do they not have Immigration Laws? Not a dig, but sometimes worth asking the question.

my kid was at an international school here and had friends of years and even y'all deemed that a misuse of visa 😂 yet totally fine to come and wed a young lady you've known a week and then preach to anyone else your opinion. This isn't directed at you, just most of the feedback I've seen in these groups.

I think the system is working as designed. ED visa is not to be used as a loophole to stay in the country. They need to get stricter.

I checked out Muay Thai Ed. Visas. Google gyms. Many sponsor and help do the paperwork. Phuket, bangkok.

Bruce Frausto Yeah I do. I'm pretty damn smart, for sure. Top 1% IQ. UC Davis Law School.. Got in. only 160 out of top elite 9000 applicants. Passed bar on first time. Practiced family law 25 years. Dual license, Masters, psychotherapist, child custody evaluator. I don't give up, even though hearing impaired to learn languages without distinct cutoffs btwn. words. Is there any reason you have to be so angryf and put others down. Course I could play golf all the time....

my goal was to live in this country for one year. I signed up for an entire year of Thai language lessons which would secure me a one year education Visa. I knew there would be challenges but I never knew that the Ed Visa could be canceled if you didn't progress at the rate that they want you to. I'm not trying to stay here at any cost but I am trying to stay here to fulfill my lease as I have upgraded and put some money into furnishing my condo and want to get the most out of what I spent.

I've never been one to not want to attempt things because of my learning disabilities and everyone should have a chance to do whatever they want in life.

You make it seem like I shouldn't attempt to do anything because I have some disadvantages in life. I would never say that to anyone.
Mike *******
@Eileen *******
cool. I'm not sure what being a lawyer has to do with anything. You think you're more elite because you passed law school. I met some pretty dumb lawyers in my life. 10 years and didn't retain anything. I would have stopped after a year.
Mike *******
@Bruce ********
then why the heck did you sign up for a Ed visa? You should have known your learning limitations might have been a issue. Your post sounds like you're just trying to stay in Thailand and would do anything to be here.
Eileen ***********
@Mike ******
I took 10 years French. Same issue. Couldn’t retain anything and partially deaf. And I’m a lawyer

@Mike ******
2 zoom classes while being deaf in left ear does not help while also having double deficit dyslexia does not make it easy to study in English let alone a different language.

you should rely on some agency and it will extend your visa.

listen entrusted to an agency and you will see that they can get you a visa.

obviously it has a cost

I came in under a tourist visa because I could not get an ED one unless I was in Thailand. Within 3 weeks of my arrival I signed up for class for a 1 year course. So tell me what I did wrong when you could not get an ED visa without being in the country first.
Yvonne *********
@Bruce ********
A tourist visa doesn’t give you a year in Thailand

I did get the correct visa. Also Thailand offers education visas for taking Muay Thai. So tell me how I did this wrong when I signed up for a one year education Visa initially

I might look into taking Muay Thai classes to get an ED Visa since that is allowed here.

I wouldn't know who to bribe and how much.
Ios *****************
@Bruce ********
In my opinion, the covid extension visa for 60 days is about to be abolished.

so either you go out and back but there is always a mess to go out and enter so for me it is better for you to extend it in a one year visa.
Ios *****************
@Bruce ********
an agency can get you extended on any visa.

for example in my case it extends my visa for one year for marriage.
Bruce *********

@Ios ****************
I guess I can look into that but what can an agency do that I can't do on my own?
Kool *******
So you actually never went to class, because the first test is very easy to pass if you went to school. They also changed the rules for getting a covid extension. The only ones that can do it now are those with a tourist visa, or visa exempt stamp.those with an ED visa, or any other visa can not get a covid extension anymore. You will now get a stamp that says you have seven days to leave Thailand. Because you failed to meet the simple requirements to keep your ED visa, I seriously doubt immigration will give you another one.

while the school has the name University at the end it is a language School. It's located inside the trendy building between Nana and asok
Benjamin ******
@Bruce ********
sadly, at a university, the classes are designed for you to study 8 hours a day if a full time student, 4 hours a day if you are a part time student. For Ed visas, you need to be a full time student

@Kool ******
I have never taken a test at immigration. I took a test at the school that was supplied by the ministry of education.
Kool *******
@Bruce ********
You tell me? You didn't pass the easy test at immigration. So was it enough in your case, and with your disability?
Bruce *********

@Benjamin *****
so I am in class for 3 hours a day and you tell me an additional 1 to 2 hours of studying after class is not enough. That's 5 hours a day total. Studying 8 hours a day is not realistic.
Benjamin ******
@Bruce ********
because studying should be about 8 hours (if full time; 36 to 40 hours a week).

class was 3 hours a day 5 days a week and then I studied 1 to 2 hours during the day after class. So tell me how I was not seriously studying.

when you are taking zoom classes online you can do that. My school was not offering in person classes until January.

My last class was in person during the month of January and obviously had to be here in town for that.

Why are you trying to belittle me while I am asking for help?
Klaus *********
@Kool ******
He mentioned that he is traveling around Thailand every other week ...... doesn't really sound like seriously studying ......
Benjamin ******
@Bruce ********
that is correct. When you apply and get a 7 day extension of stay denied stamp, you have 7 days to leave Thailand
Bruce *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Kool ******
So what happens if I go there for a second extension which I believe ends in March and they deny it? I would have 7 days to leave the country and then I would have to fill out paperwork to come back in? I would have to leave the country and come back in on a tourist visa?
Kool *******
@Bruce ********
as I say, they have changed the covid extension requirements so you will not get another.

I took three courses over a five-month period. And for me it wasn't that easy to pass. 3 hours a day 5 days a week for one month for each course. I have learning disabilities which makes it very tough for me but I gave it a shot.

So don't say it's easy when for you it may be but for me it was a bit tougher.

I did switch from an ed visa to a covid extension. It was my first and only covid extension
Rogerio ******

. You'll only get short-term visas from neighbouring countries. The only long-term tourist visa you must apply in your own country.

Other than flying back to the US what other options do I have available? I was planning on moving back to the US as soon as my lease ends here in September. I really don't want to pay $1,200 for round trip flights where I'll be back in a week. I'm okay traveling to other countries for an extended period of time.
Bobby ********
Bruce Frausto. Go back briefly to your home country and come back on an STV. That way you'll get nine months without having to leave and without having to pay an agent to pay a bribe for a visa which is not quite legit.

I'm fully vaccinated. 2 days of quarantine I can manage I just thought it was going to be another 14 days if I left the country and came back.
Kool *******
@Bruce ********
if you are not fully vaccinated you must do 10 days quarantine, and if you are you still do at least two days of quarantine and AKT tests, one on the first day, and the fifth day back, plus the required covid insurance. With an ED visa as your last visa you can no longer get another covid extension.

all viable options except the getting married part. Haha. Thanks for that one. This one made me laugh out loud.

Find a job, get sponsored. Or!! Get married. You can also get an elite visa if you have the money. Otherwise, you will just undoubtedly be playing the “what’s my next visa going to be” game indefinitely..

Currently still NO Vietnam ourist visa for individual tourists available!
Ron *******
You won't get any METV anywhere in the region.

The only place that did issue them was Perth in Australia.

That consulate is now permanently closed, along with every Honary consulate worldwide.

You'll need to return to your home country in order to have a chance of getting one

I believe March 24th is the last day for the another covid extension. If let's say on March 20th I fly out to Vietnam and stay there for 3 weeks. Do I just fly back in the Thailand and have them stamp my passport as if I am a tourist and then get a 60 day Visa that is extendable for an additional 30 days and then repeat the process one again before I come back.

My concern is no matter what length of time I'm gone for whether it's a day or a month I will have to go back in the quarantine for 2 weeks. Is that how that will work?
Nigel *********
@Bruce ********
multiple entry tourist visa. You get 60 days per entry extendable for another 30. You then bounce out of the country for a day then you get another 60 extendable. Now then, here's the problem. Many consulates stopped selling them for obvious reasons. Hopefully, as some sort of normality returns, you may be able to get them again. Other than that, marry a Thai (lady)

I'm new to this. What is an METV? I've always wanted to go to Vietnam. I know they have a three day quarantine and then I could stay for a few weeks and possibly come back. I just don't know if I have to deal with the Thai embassy again or if I could just go to Vietnam for several weeks and fly back into Thailand.
Nigel *********
So you're probably not going to get another COVID extension. Maybe head to Cambodia and come back with a METV . Borders look like their opening up in the next few months. Might be a good option for you.

I moved the Thailand to live in a different country for a year. I'm 6 months into a one-year lease. I am not working. I'm more or less traveling around the country every other week.
