Any thoughts on Health insurance for new entry into Thai for long term visa holders .

I'm thinking initially that this may seriously hold up many from applying but some people like me have extensive cover in the UK.

So if I get issues ideally hop on a plane for the attention in UK.

So I was thinking if anyone was paying monthly in Thai for minimum level of insurance that covers stabilisation .

Anyone thinking this way at present in the same situation or thoughts would be appreciated

If not , this is a great site with useful help and ideas

And great photos

Sometimes it is just not possible to hop on a plane depending on the medical condition. If you cannot afford full medical cover you cannot afford to travel.

very true.

It's finding affordable insurance that can be hard.

To cover COVID yeah but this is Black Swan event. Before I got company cover I travelled for over 2 years using World Nomads - it was not even the cost of a night out per month

You can buy from outside your home country and extend too while travelling. I bought 6 months then just kept adding 3 or 6 months as plans changed.

I think it’s now difficult to obtain paperwork to enter Thailand unless you take out one of the Thailand ‘officially recognised’ policies. You have to get your insurance to fill out a special form to be covered (certificate isn’t sufficient) and several have reported their companies reluctant to do that. Plus all phaff of getting signature.

. That's only applicable for OA visas. Other visa insurance (covid 19) do not have that stipulation

. This is the form I think you are referring to, which as you can see is specific for the OA. I understand that the Thai companies are now giving a "bolt-on" clause (for an extra payment of course) which will cover covid up to the $100,000.

. You need insurance that gives cover of min $100,000 US for covid. These policies are cheaper to buy overseas. The OA insurance is a different matter. You need the form completed before you can even apply for the visa. Once you're in country you are obliged to take one of the "recommended" insurances.

So far

I thought you need a UK address, i.e. proof of living in UK to obtain insurance in UK.

So again please advise how this is possible to do.
Jane ***********
@Steve ********
actually you don’t. I had it with Cigna with no permanent address.

@Jane **********
are you aware if there was a cost difference if based in UK, Thailand or elsewhere?
Jane ***********
@Steve ********
No there isn’t. But more expensive if you want US and Canada included. You have to choose, can’t keep switching. But I just take out a separate policy for when I’m travelling there.

Mark. I extended my UK private health insurance to include overseas (except USA/Canada).
