I am here on a Non-B two year work visa (BIO). My wife has been on a Non-B visa, but it runs out of Sunday, and I wondered if there is a long-term visa we can apply for, for her?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a query about long-term visa options for the author's wife, who is currently on a Non-B visa. It highlights that while Thailand recognizes same-sex marriages, there are no provisions for a trailing spouse visa or extension for same-sex couples, making it challenging for the author's wife to obtain a matching visa extension based on her husband's work visa.

With that, this post is closed. Good luck to OP and her partner to find the way.

While thailand 'recognizes' same sex marriages they are NOT recognized to get extensions based on "trailing spouse"<- where one of the married couple gets a matching extension because the other is legally working with a Non-B/work permit.

The immigration rules have not been changed to reflect that and there's no way to get a piggy back "trailing spouse" visa/extension for same sex marriages here in thailand..

your spouse cannot get a visa/extension based on yours. They'd have to carry their own visa/extension for their own reasons.. So if they're stopping the Non-B visa/extension next week, then they can go to the thai consulate in a nearby country and get a tourist visa OR they can bounce out and back and get a free visa exempt entry and during that time LOOK for something to facilitate a long term stay here

If she leaves the country this week, and returns on a tourist visa, would she have to cancel her Work Permit and current Visa before she leaves (as she would plan to return before the 31st, which is when her current visa expires).

doubt she has a visa at all. READ the stamp in her passport, if it says extension of stay permitted until, she is on an extension and that needs to be cancelled BEFORE she exits the country. She cancels the work permit, gets documentation from the employer stating she stops work on the day her extension expires, goes to the immigration office a week or so before that and cancels the extension. They'll stamp her in until the date the extension expires (the date the termination is effective from the employer documentation) THEN she just stamps out and leaves

So what are our options

?

I thought Thailand does not recognize same sex marriage.

that's why I mentioned "you two are legally and Thailand recognizably married," first of all.

yep, and if that is the case than it becomes a totally different story. We just have to wait and see if she is willing to share that important information.

Yes, we are both female! However, I'm hoping there is a visa for 'dependents?'

there is a visa for married people in your situation but same sex marriage is not recognised therefore you are both just unrelated individuals I'm afraid. She needs to look at standalone visa options

there is not ๐Ÿ™

NO, same sex marriage is not recognized.

She needs to find a visa for herself, like the Thai Elite Visa for long term

@Robert ******
