What are my visa options as an expatriate in Thailand with a same-sex partner on a local contract?

Hello, I recently moved to Thailand with my husband as he started working here on a local contract. As Thailand doesn't recognize gay marriage I am now staying on a 6 months tourist visa (expiring August 9th).

I was wondering if there are any examples for Thai Immigration to approve dependant visa in a similar situation? Returning back to Europe after July 31 could mean I won't be back for a long time, so I'm looking into possibilities. (An elite visa would not match the budget...)

Thanks for your ideas!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is currently on a 6-month tourist visa in Thailand and is exploring options for extending their stay without being able to obtain a dependent visa due to Thailand's non-recognition of gay marriage. Comments suggest pursuing an education visa as a viable alternative, citing examples such as Muay Thai training, language study, or other courses that can provide eligibility for an education visa.

12 month Education visa would be the best bet.

I did a Muay Thai visa to stay previously (similar situation, thai partner, no recognition of gay relationships, etc). Had to train Muay Thai 90 minutes a day, 4 or 5 days a week.

Alternatively you can do education visas in Thai language, Thai massage, self defense, Thai cooking, scuba diving - you just need to find a school certified by the ministry of education to offer the visa for their teaching, but in Bangkok I would imagine most education options would be available somewhere.

Most education visas only require commitment of an hour or 2 a day, 4ish days a week.

You’re right but if they don’t need to border bounce til August 9 then... fingers crossed it will be possible to do a visa run by then

You might be able to find a job, I guess processing the visa, especially any requirement to exit would be the difficulty. Hopefully progress on borders opening by August but no guarantees.

Yes, a job would be great but the timing is of course not helping now.

Sorry but there is no Thai marriage visa available to you....nor trailing dependent visa as your partner is working in Thailand.

A similar question was asked twice recently ...
