If I were to secure a good job posting in Thailand, is there a visa to cover my other half of 25 years. Not married.

Many Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges of obtaining a visa for a long-term partner (not married) if one secures a job in Thailand. Key points include the non-recognition of civil partnerships in Thailand, various visa options such as education, investment, and elite visas, and the fact that a work visa typically does not cover the partner. Additionally, the difficulty of finding job opportunities for expats is highlighted.

If money is not an object, then there is the investment visa. The initial investment is a lot, but, it is the only visa you can actually make a profit on. There is also the Elite visa.

There are very very few jobs for expats in construction. It is hard to find work in any sector to be frank. If you were to find work,your visa will not cover your defacto....

If cannot find the job with work permit, you can do for education visa for one year. I know an agent can do this without a hassle. PM me if you need. Thanks

Depending on her age there are more or less easy visas to get for your (informal) wife.

Luckily for us, making a lot isn’t necessary. And if it happens it happens. You’ve been very helpful thanks.

, I wish you success. But prepare yourself that it is not that easy. Many foreigners have had this dream but realized that making even small money compared to the US and Europe might be very hard to find. And yes and no, it is cheaper to live in Thailand too, but not that cheap. 50k per month is not a lot of money in Thailand even though it is 5 times unskilled workers' salaries. Most ppl having success making a decent income in Thailand are making it on foreigners - in the tourist areas, by remote work, production for Western markets, etc. Doing investments in the construction business by making high-quality houses for foreigners might be a way to look into for you. But it takes some capital.

Many Thanks. You wouldn’t know of any recruitment agency’s that work within construction would you.

- try Brunel energy … NES fircroft ….. Airswift …..JST ….vinarco … these all employ foreigners in construction… good luck

also before looking for various types of jobs, just check the list of jobs that foreigners are banned to do.

, unfortunately not, but I don't think this is the way to do it. The salary level is very low in Thailand compared to the US and Europe. Unskilled workers make 10,000 THB if lucky. Foreigners teaching English make 30k THB. If making an extremely high salary then 100-150k THB. There are very few jobs making more - like airplane pilots and the like. You should find someone looking for ppl with Western skills. Either you must find such companies yourself and offer your service or they will probably look for it in the US or Europe via the recruiters there. Many ppl have this dream and idea of getting a job in Thailand for maybe half their salary in the US or Europe but end up realizing that it is more likely to find a job with

of their old salary.

Thank you We are in our mid forties. She has a business degree and would no doubt not find it hard to find work herself.
Andy ***********
@Pa**
- not easy at all actually . Assume she speaks fluent Thai. That would give her some chance .. but just about all business in Thailand is conducted in Thai
Henrik ****
@Paul *******
, of course, if she is able to find a job in Thailand herself that could be the basis of getting a Non-B visa, but such a company must have at least 2 M THB as paid-up capital and 4 Thai people per foreigner and the job must at least (in most cases) generate 50,000 THB per month. (Some differences from province to province). Such jobs are not as easy to find as they might seem...

I have looked at teaching as an option but I am only degree level. So I was thinking of searching out construction management work if possible as that is what I do. For us to both land a job at the same time would be difficult this is why I asked my original question of getting her in via my work. I’m not even sure construction management is possible for expats but I’m looking into this. Thanks for your advice.
Henrik ****
@Paul *******
, teaching is usually paid like 30,000 THB unless some very expensive private schools. There are examples of native English-speaking teachers with master's degrees getting high paid jobs. The construction business can surely use ppl with Western skills. You will have to look for some of the special companies building high-quality houses (for foreigners) or construction companies making complex buildings.

@Paul *******
, if trying to qualify for a visa based on her work (from home) is a bit cumbersome. My best shot would be the Elite Visa but quite expensive.

No. Thailand doesn’t recognise civil partnerships.

I know of a story of Dutch manager/director with a civil partnership who was granted a dependents visa for his Dutch civil partner, but the fact that this may have been granted might have to do that the company in question was a large international one, and his position was upper management/director.

So if you were to secure such job post I'm sure a large international company could work things out.

There are always going to be exceptions to “the rules” depending on contacts and such. For the rest of us mere mortals probably not so much.

Sorry. Was early AM for me. Bloody football…Not too many options for her as she’s “on her own” visa wise. An ED visa will get her a year or two at most. An Elite if money is no object. But then again if money is no object you could marry 😀
