So I saw a discussion on another group about cash on hand to be able to enter Thailand. I thought I knew the answer to this but a google search provided many contradicting answers so I ran here to where the facts live ๐Ÿ˜Š

For a visa exemption is it 10000 thb or equivalent?

For a NON-O is it 20000 or equivalent?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand, individuals traveling on a visa exemption must carry a minimum of 20,000 THB (or its equivalent in foreign currency) as proof of funds if requested by immigration officers. For those on a Visa on Arrival (VOA), the requirement is 10,000 THB. While the requirement is not strictly enforced for Non-Immigrant visas such as the NON-O, it is advisable to be prepared to show cash in case you are asked.

Also a onward flight within the visa period and pre booked accommodation ..

@Tony ********
They can ask for your flight departing Thailand within the number of days you are initially STAMPED in for on arrival. The day you arrive into Thailand Counts as Day #1.
James ********
Also Thai Immigration may ask to see your address where you will be staying during the initial day from your arrival.

@James *******
this one I have definitely have shown as they have asked
James ********
However it's most likely your airline which may ask for PROOF of your flight departing Thailand within the number of days you are STAMPED in for on arrival.

All who enter Thailand as Visa Exempt, if ASKED by Thai Immigration Officers, AS AN INDIVIDUAL you are to show PROOF of 20,000 Thai baht / 40,000 per family, or its equivalent in foreign currency. It MUST be CASH.

Those who enter Thailand as Visa on Arrival VOA, IF ASKED are to show PROOF of 10,000 Thai baht in CASH or foreign currency.

NO ATM ๐Ÿง located in Thai Immigration arrival. No bank statement accepted. No photo from your cell smart phone accepted.

@James *******
Does this apply to a NON-O (or any other visa type) as well?

@Chip *******
They don't ask anymore if you have any of the Non-immigrant Visas, e.g. Non-B (Working/Business), Non-O (Dependent), etc.

They (randomly or rarely) ask those in Tourist Visas.

@Sonido *******
you sound pretty sure. But why not be prepared? Then no worries at all.

@Chip *******
Yes it does. They can ask.

Not required for non-immigrant visas, only tourist entries

@Steve *******
They can ask.

@James *******
They can ask whatever they want, but there's no requirement for non-immigrant visa/extension holders to be carrying cash.

tell that to the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you on arrival.

They may question those who in their estimation may be using various means to stay and work in Thailand ... visa exempt entry, extensions, Ed Visa or Volunteer Visa, border bounce and back to back Tourist Visas. It's their decision regarding allowing you to enter Thailand and for how long.

best (and I think required) is 20,000 either way
