Can anyone tell me what happens with DTV applications during the Xmas & NY period in Australia at Canberra Consulate? Do they stop processing applications and people have to wait until the new year? I have flights booked for to Thailand on the 31st Dec and concerned my visa will not be processed in time. I submitted it on the 10th Dec and provided additional documents 3 days later. Thats was on 13th Dec.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The processing of DTV applications at the Canberra Consulate may be slowed during the Christmas and New Year period, as the embassy will be closed on December 25th and 26th, and staff may be on leave, resulting in delays. Typically, the visa process can take anywhere from 10 business days to 4 to 6 weeks.

Embassy closures depend on the Thai holidays + the local countries holidays.

Hey

I did actually get through and offered even more support documents. They said it looked fine and to await approval. That was 3 days ago. I am worried if I call them my application will go to the end of the pile again.

Embassy is closed 25th and 26th. However, expect staff to be on leave, so it will be slower. The process takes between 10 business days up to

weeks

sadly not the news I was hoping for. It means to make this work best for their systems, you book flights and accomodation 2 month in advance. If the visa comes in 10 days it’s real wast of time and money. Fingers crossed I don’t have to re schedule flights and accommodation.

- Not sure I understand what you mean by it being a waste of time and money if it comes in 10 days.

Gaining a visa in 10 days and having to wait the potential 6 weeks for flights and wasting time on an active visa etc if you have booked 2 months in advance

I am sure for the majority of people it will only be 10 business days. That being said, it is a 5 year visa, so not loosing much. Most other visas the validly of entry means nothing much, as you are granted the same amount of stay in country once you enter.

Or Come in on 70 day stamp ...a flight to Lao , Vietnam or Malaysia ...Cambodia...when your DTV arrives .... I've just done Vientiane for that visa ..as I have a bike, I went for a ride over from Chiang Mai..I not sure but I think here you can go in and out in one day ...with DTV ..but maybe not north northern Kaos
