Good morning group

I've submitted my non o visa back on the 9th of July and I fly out this Friday the 14th Landing in Bangkok on the 15th.

Unfortunately I haven't received confirmation from Thai Embassy Canberra Australia as yet is it the norm for them to approve at the last minute. As tdac arrival card asks for visa number. Have more than enough funds.

Have visa agent and landlord waiting for my arrival

Getting a little nervy

Kind regards
Answer summary
The original poster is concerned about their pending non-O visa application, which they submitted on July 9th, as they are scheduled to fly to Bangkok on July 15th without having received confirmation from the Thai Embassy in Canberra. Other comments in the thread share similar experiences, with many noting that it is not uncommon for visa approvals to occur at the last minute. Suggestions include contacting the embassy for updates, entering Thailand on a visa-exempt basis if approval does not come through in time, and using an agent for assistance with future applications.

I applied for an OA visa from the Canberra Embassy a few years ago and it arrived a day before I was due to fly out (and a day after I had changed my flight because I had no visa). Best to lie about the day you fly out so you get your visa on time.

I am aware that the London embassy likes to approve it nearer the time of the departure …. I assume it gives you longest possible time to present it when entering Thailand should initial plan be postponed.

In the UK, my visa arrived the day before my flight. I wasn't panicking, as I had already changed my flight for other reasons, but it does cause unnecessary stress for the applicants

We received my husband's non-oa in less than 24 hours in the US and our subsequent visas in less than 24 hours. I know all consulates are different. Have you tried emailing or calling them?

My DTV visa (via Canberra) has been pending approval since July 16th and I fly out on the 27th August . . . .

Hi, I did a non o marriage 90 day through the Canberra e-visa. Applied 6th July with a fly out date of 5 August. The e-visa dashboard showed documentation got verified and moved to pending approval on 14th August. It sat on that status for a worrying amount of time, then on 3 August the e-mail approval came in at about 6pm.

My wife and I had bought one way air tickets that could have a date change and the plan was to reschedule for 8th August if it didn’t come in by 6pm 4th August with a backup plan to further reschedule if still nothing by 6th August. Fortunately that wasn’t necessary. It would have been some trouble because hotel or Airbnb accommodation would need to be also booked as we had left our previous home and sold/ shipped almost everything

You can always go ahead and make your scheduled flight and enter visa exempt for 60 days and deal with the visa later if you don't get it before your current scheduled departure date.

Steven L. Daugherty I thought you're not supposed to be physically in Thailand while your visa still processing.
Steven ***************

Jay Kesuma you can enter Thailand on visa exempt if your non-o application is still pending on your planned departure date. Immigration will stamp you in as a tourist under the visa exempt program. If your non-o is later approved then you exit Thailand and reenter on the non-o to activate it. You can exit to a neighbor Country like Laos to cancell your visa exempt entry and reenter on your new non-o visa. Just an available back up option that's available if you can't change your flight date. But your non-o will probably come through on time.

you should apply for the 90-days visa before you wing your way to Thailand. Don't apply for the visa in Thailand. It will be VERY costly, up from 60,000 THB with an agent

Nongnuch Kamdee I applied once in Thailand, no problems. Used an agent, always have done. It was not all that expensive. They did everything. Even opened my bank account.

It sounds like you're talking at least a year in the past. Things have changed dramatically. It now costs 2-3x more to convert from tourist to non-O inside of Thailand, especially if you include obtaining a bank account. That alone probably costs as much as the entire process used to cost.

I have no idea about your Embassy but the UK don't usually notify approval until shortly before your trip. Have you considered contacting them. Have you checked the status of your application on the e-visa site?
Jo ********

Phil Wilson that's not true. Response is normally just a few days after application. In this case I fear the worst for our Aussie cousin.

Dave Owen Response maybe - that's why I asked if he'd checked the status of his application. However, somewhere in the process it actually says visas are not sent until shortly before travel - see Steven Bruce's post below.

OP
I'm still Australia.

Apparently you apply for a non o visa in home country which allows you to open Thai bank account so the funds are in account for at least 2 months.

Non o visa is for 90 days stay
Lisa ******
Lisa ******
David Pomering Once you have your non-o visa, you just need a few more pieces of paperwork in order to open your bank account. You need to get your residence certificate from immigration and you can open your bank account. No agent really required but it may be easier. It was just a trip to immigration and then to the bank.
Lynnette *******
Lynnette *******
David Pomering yes, Non-O you get IS the retirement visa. It's valid for 90 days to give you time to open bank account and season money for 2 months. Then you extend your stay for 12 months. The extension isn't a visa. You used the visa to enter.
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
Lynnette Munoz sorry but I need to correct you . . . . you wrote: "Non-O you get IS the retirement visa. It's valid for 90 days " . . . . . . the VISA VALIDITY is 90 days from the issue date of the visa. He needs to ENTER within these 90 days. Upon entry, he will get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. The stay permit and the visa validity are two different dates. Up from 30 days before the EXPIRY of the 90-days stay permit, he can apply for the 1-year extension of the stay permit. It is okay to have an agent help you with this application, and if he is using own funds of 800,000 THB in his Thai bank account, the agent service isn't that expensive for David Pomering
David **********
David **********
OP
Lynnette Munoz agent is organising bank account and start process of retirement visa
Lynnette *******
Lynnette *******
David Pomering the non-O is the retirement visa. It's what you use to open the bank account. The agent won't be processing a retirement visa because you will already have it. The 12 month extension (to the Non-O) isnt a visa, and costs 1900 tbt.
Adam ******
Adam ******
Lynnette Munoz Sounds like the OP has already organised an agent to do the extension instead of doing it themselves. Could be an expensive option considering they already have the initial visa and the funds.

Visa number is an optional field on the TDAC. You can leave it blank

@Brandon ***********
It’s optional if you don’t have a visa. If you have a visa you should fill it in. It can cause (albeit minor) processing delays at the desk otherwise
Brandon ************
Brandon ************
ProductiveBeet7447 no, it can't. The only thing they care about at the desk is if you submitted a TDAC or not.
