I would like to do a followup on a post back in December regarding the OX visa from Australia.

There was a lot of discussions and debate on how it works and in the end there was no final answers.

The member who put the post up decided not to go ahead with pursing it and went for the OA instead, my husband and I decided to try.

We applied for it at the Thai Consulate in Sydney.

We were approved within 2 days and received our passports back with the stamp on it OX. We were so excited we got it.

We arrived back in Phuket last Friday afternoon from Sydney, we got to immigration the staff member serving us took one look at the visa looked at us puzzled ask other staff member he hadn’t seen it before either we explained it’s for 5 years plus. She took it to the head immigration officer they both returned I was starting to get worried.

He said no problems told her what dates to put in. We are stamped in for 5 years, they did my husbands passport and said welcome back enjoy your time here.

We are going to immigration in the next couple of days to get the residency paperwork and ask about 90 days reporting and do we have to leave the Kingdom during the 5 years. Will keep you updates.

Sorry about the length of this post

They received a 5-year stamp and learned that the visa allows unlimited entries with only 90-day reporting requirements. Congratulations on getting the visa.

Do you have to report to immigration annually so that they can check that you have adhered to the financial requirements for the first two years and the insurance requirements every year?

As Todd said we have to do 90 day reporting and even when we were previously on the OA visa not once did we have to show proof of financial requirements to immigration.

The visa is done in Australia who have checked the requirements.

Yes you have to have insurance yearly which doesn’t worry us as we have always had insurance in Thailand

Congrats on getting it (y)

What you have is a 10 year O/X visa that is put in the passport as two 5 year visas (not to be confused with the 5 year entry stamp you get when you come into the country)

It is unlimited entry for the validity of the visa and every time you come in you'll get stamped in for another 5 years.

There is no NEED to leave the country at all if you don't want to and you're good to stay the 5 years and only do 90 day reporting (which the first one is due 89 days from the date you stamped in)

When that 5 year OX visa is running out you go to immigrations and they will put in a NEW 5 year OX visa sticker. (actually a stamp)

As you saw even immigrations didn't know what to do 😮 when you stamped in, that's because it is a visa that FEW people have. I think it's less than 200 people total 😕
