Urgent: New Zealand friend of mine needs to return home for funerals for the mass shooting in Christchurch ;(

He came in on a type b and has just got his work permit sorted but is not yet on an extension of stay.  people are telling us  he will have to repeat the process of applying for a type b from NZ. can't he just get a re-entry permit?
