What are the requirements for obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa to stay with a Thai family, and how do they differ from the marriage visa extension?

I am looking at the Thai Embassy Los Angeles web site... I am confused.. I thought that one only needed the funds in the bank two months prior to the 90 day visa expires.

please explain.. maybe I am not looking at the correct info ..

would like to obtain the 90 day visa and then apply for the marriage visa after 60 days..

here is what is on the Thai Embassy Los Angeles web site.

Required documents to upload in the system (Large and clear JPEG or PDF format) to stay with Thai family residing in Thailand (more than 60 days):

1. Passport Biodata Page or Travel Document (Must be valid within 6 months from travel date)

2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months

3. Document indicating current location (driving license, bank statement, or proof of stay)

4. Recent bank statement showing the applicant's name and ending balance of no less than $15,000 or proof of monthly income of not less than $1,500/month) along with the current bank statement showing incoming income

5. Personal details of a family in Thailand, e.g. valid Thai ID card or Thai Passport

6. Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand (immediate family only), e.g. A copy of marriage certificate / birth certificate / certificate of adoption

if this is not the visa I want.. please to direct me to the correct visa.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on the requirements for obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa and the subsequent application for a marriage visa. They are confused about needing proof of funds prior to applying, referencing information from the Thai Embassy in Los Angeles regarding necessary documentation, including bank statements. A comment from the community explains the distinction between the initial visa application requirements and the financial requirements for a year-long extension based on marriage that applies once in Thailand.

Don't confuse the requirements to get the 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage from a thai consulate in another country (where you show proof of funds in your country at what ever that embassy has set) with the requirements to apply for an extension of stay for a year based on marriage to a thai at the immigration office after you're here on that 90 day entry stamp the Non-O visa gives you

The in country extension based on marriage to a thai is the one that requires the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the year extension as well as all the other documents required by your immigration office for the marriage extension

you want this choice for the 90 day non-O visa based on marriage to a thai

thank you... the Los Angeles Thailand Embassy has different requirements than the 400k baht.. this was what has me confused...

@Jack ****
each embassy sets the financial requirements to sell that visa in their country so in the US you show 15K USD or 1500 USD per month for that visa

once you get here it will definitely be 400K baht banked in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for your year extension ๐Ÿ™‚

@Tod ********
can you apply for the Non O in a different country... using the E visa portal for that Embassy ??

@Jack ****
you have to be IN those countries to apply,

There's no problem going to Vietnam or Lao and applying for a 90 day Non-O visa at one of the consulates there using the online system and then waiting for the visa to be approved to come to thailand

I can be such an idiot sometimes.... I totally missed the word "or" in the following paste....."Recent bank statement showing the applicant's name and ending balance of no less than $15,000 or proof of monthly income of not less than $1,500/month) along with the current bank statement showing incoming income." ........ nothing to worry about now... thanks for your responses Tod..

In the US for the eVisa web portal you select the thai consulate you apply thru based on the state you reside it.
