Penang, Malaysia visa run update. I flew straight to Penang. Went to the well recommended Jim's Place in Georgetown to handle my SETV application. He literally did everything. I dropped off my Passport Sunday afternoon, he went to the Thai consulate Monday and he collected my passport Tuesday. He also provided an onward ticket and hotel booking for the application. Total cost B2500 for visa, onward ticket and hotel booking. I then took a minivan to Hat Yai to fly domestically. At the border crossing I was requested to show B20k, which I had so they let me through after I filled in another form. I was the only 1 asked to show 20k most probably because I have a South African passport. Would highly recommend Penang for a visa run as its hassle free and doesnt require you to go to the consulate at all :-)

Besides your passport, the onward ticket and hotel booking, what other documentation did you need?

So do you have to take the minivan back across the border? You can't fly back into BKK?

They asked my passport at the immigration counter. Then saw im from SA, they pointed at room/office. Gave me a form and pointed to sign with some details on including the 20k requirement and he said I must show 20k cash. No other documents requested. I showed the 20k and filled in the form, they stapled my arrival card to this form with a copy of my passport and they said I can go. No questions, almost like it was a formality. So I only needed passport, onward ticket, hotel booking and 2 passport photos for the application and 20k to show at the crossing

Took me 3 - 4 hours yesterday, the driver wasn't racing. This includes both immigrations + 1 pit stop. Left Penang at 3pm and arrived at the Bus terminal in Hat Yai at +- 7pm, then another 20 mins to Hat Yai Airport
