Not advocating anything but just reporting our experience yesterday at Phuket immigration in Phuket Town getting a 30 day extension.

50% of people were wearing shorts and flip flops.

TM30 was NOT needed, only needed copy of passport (2 pages signed) and new passport sized photos and TM 7 filled out.

Around the corner they take photos and make copies. Very easy.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The experience of extending a 30-day visa in Phuket immigration highlights that a TM30 form is not needed. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport (two pages signed), recent passport-sized photos, and fill out the TM7 form. Many attendees were casually dressed, and it was noted that different immigration offices have varying degrees of strictness regarding dress code.

This is for tourists, does not apply to others.

So the stamp on your passport dictates how you should dress at the immigration office? 🥴🥴🥴🙄🙄🙄

I think it depends more on the office than the visa. Some do enforce it, probably most don't but some do.

By the sheet you posted, that says at the top “tourism” not all visas.

Thais enforce the details.

the top says "tourism" because all the other details are tourist extension specific. The other graphics I've seen all have the same tips on how to dress and act at the bottom. As far as I know these graphics were not created by immigration.
Wylie *******
I've worn shorts and sandels for every single interaction with immigration for 3 plus years in various cities. 90% plus of everyone else dressed the same. Never understood when people would comment that you needed to dress up for it.

they won't even let me in the building if I don't wear a suit, but it's not a tourist visa. What you wear does matter, especially if you want to form long term connections.

I just wish it wasn't so hot here.

@Shea ******
A suit certainly isn't needed. T-shirt and some long pants are good enough in 99% of cases.

I realize every office is different, but from my experience so far I've yet to go to one that cared one bit. I'm curious what office and what kind of visa you're on that a suit is required. I've never seen a single person get that dressed up. The graphic being shared also says the applicant should do all the talking, yet I let my wife do 99% of it. As far as long term connections there's so many people there I don't think I've ever dealt with the same person twice.

any of the BOI issued visas, business, smart, etc. There is also only one office in all of Thailand that you can go too.

@Shea ******
I've used the BOI office and while I did wear a shirt the first time (certainly no tie though) you'll be fine as long as you don't look too sloppy. A collared shirt is absolutely fine; no need to play dress-up (unless you want to).

For citizenship and PR applications, then yes, you'd want to dress up.

@Shea ******
that makes sense. I suspected it was it was one of the visas that had higher requirements and expectations.
Gray ******
I have not worn long pants in 6 plus years, the local immigration has never implied I was improperly dressed.

"people were on an island in Thailand and weren't wearing a suit and tie. Animals..."

Did mine at Bluetree. Easier than going to the dentist. In and out in 45 mins! A doddle! 👍

This year, I’ve extended twice in Hua Hin immigration office in Blueport Mall. You only need your passport and ฿1900. They give you a form to complete while you wait and the immigration officer takes your picture with a digital camera when they stamp your passport and take your money. Super easy. Hassle free.

I wonder if low season will be coming?

There's certainly no sign of low season in Patong that I saw. Hotel prices have levelled off a bit but way above last September. Russian males of military age are unlikely to want to join the patriotic cause...
