Hi there.

I am going to apply for my 30 day extension on my tourist visa. This is my first time doing this (arrived December 4th).

Do I need a passport photo for the extension?

do they keep my passport? (i need it to fly to Phuket on Tuesday).

* edit. Also where in bangkok do you go to get the extension?

Thank you,

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 30-day extension on a tourist visa in Thailand, you typically need to provide a passport photo, alongside other documents such as copies of your passport, recent visa, and TM30 form. However, some immigration offices may have varying requirements. It's confirmed that they will not keep your passport during the process, and you should receive the extension on the spot if eligible. Additionally, it's recommended to check the location of the immigration office in Bangkok where you plan to apply.

Not sure about the passport photo but they wont keep your passport. If you're entitled to the extention you'll get it there and then.

I recommend trying to get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. You will need:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

An extension of stay based on being a tourist require the same documents, except the letter from the embassy.

All extension of stays are 1,900 THB. Don't pay any more then that.

I am changing to an Ed visa but don’t have enough time on my current visa. So I have to do the extension first.

Is the school going to keep your passport while they get the extension of stay based on studying?
