Hi everyone!! I'm staying in Chiang Mai and need to extend my stay for a further month (already got my extension at immigration). Can I do it by crossing Mae Sai border? If so, how long is the visa exemption for? Any suggestion on transportation to and from?

Thanks everyone in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Rob is seeking advice on extending his stay in Chiang Mai by crossing the Mae Sai border. He wants to know if this is possible, the duration of the visa exemption, and transportation options. The responses indicate that it is possible to obtain a new 30-day visa exemption at the Mae Sai border, provided the individual meets the eligibility criteria based on their nationality.

You can get a new 30 day visa exempt entry at the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border with burma without any problems.

You are allowed TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year Jan 1 - Dec 31) so the calendar just reset :)

Yes you can do, no you can not do. Without knowing the country of origin or your passport and knowing if you are legible for a visa exempt entry it wil be a guess. See if you country is in this list under Visa Exempt Scheme

As far as figuring out how to get to the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border you're on your own. from Chiang Mai people use the Green Bus <- google it OR post on a Chiang Mai related f/b group
