Can I extend my Non-B Visa in Thailand or do I need to switch to a Tourist Visa?

Hi all, I’m on a non-B visa that expires on April 28th. I went in for my 90-day check today at the Surat Thani Immigration office and also asked to extend my visa for 30 days. They told me I would need to leave and come back on a tourist visa to be eligible for the extension. Has anyone had this problem? I’ve been a teacher here for 2 years so it’s a little frustrating when tourists are allowed to extend and I’m not.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user on a non-B visa, experiencing issues with extending their stay, was informed by immigration that they needed to leave Thailand and return on a tourist visa to be eligible for an extension. This raised frustration as expatriates feel tourists have easier options for extensions. Community comments highlighted the complexities of visa regulations, particularly pointing out that extensions are specific to certain visa types.

Your extension of stay based on employment lets you stay in Thailand as long as you have a job. Your job ended on February 28, and therefore your extension of stay should have been canceled on February 28. You are currently on overstay, and will be fined 500THB a day. You'd pay a fine of about 12K THB.

GO to the immigration and labor office to cancel your extension of stay, then take the next flight back to a country that will accept you.

IF you stay longer then 90 days, you will be arrested and blacklisted for a year.

If you are caught, you'll be blacklisted for 5 years. See attached.

Sounds right. For a Non-B visa with an extension of stay, they only sell the extension of stay for one year.

Are you currently employed?

I have a letter from the embassy. She said I need to be on a tourist visa

No you can not with a Non-B visa. I only seen it for tourist visas or visas exempts. PLUS, she's an American and I haven't seen ANYONE get a 30 day COVID-19 extension with the letter.

I’m not employed at the moment. But if new teachers can’t come in then I’ll take an open position.

you have a non B and you went for a 90 day check and asked a 30 day?

There is no 30 day Extension of Stay for Non Immigrant visa

Thought there would be an exception considering the COVID outbreak.

IF you went for a 90 day report you're on an extension NOT a Non-B visa, (seeing as a Non-B visa you can't stay more than 90 days and don't DO 90 day reporting.
