What is the process for converting a DTV visa to a business visa and work permit in Thailand?

What is the process to convert DTV to open my own business/visa work permit etc?

Can you stay within Thailand for the entire process or does this visa need to be cancelled by exiting first and then re-entering on a tourist visa and converting to business from there?

Any info on cancelling this visa would be appreciated as with my timeline it may make more sense to just issue a tourist visa and not go DTV route after all. I was thinking to take DTV to buy more time but now I’m not sure… thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) to a business visa (Non-B) and work permit in Thailand, you can typically do this at an immigration office without exiting the country, although many suggest that leaving Thailand may make the process easier for some individuals. It's often recommended to initially enter Thailand on a tourist visa, which provides 90 days to establish your business, followed by a conversion to a Non-B visa, provided that you meet the requirements, such as the registered capital of 2 million baht and employment of Thai nationals.

If you are definately 100% setting up a LTD company in Thailand and going for the "B", WP etc I would come in as a tourist and extend. That gives you 90 days which should be enough to get everything set up.

Most people need to leave Thailand to get a "B". I know some teachers get one while in country but there is something about having degrees etc attested. Even large global BOI companies send staff outside to apply for the B as the process is easier. When I was on Retirement Visa and needed to get a B for a Work Permit the Retirement had to be cancelled first. I then flew to Singapore for the B. As I had a multi-entry permit it became a bit of a nightmare. Hope it is smoother for a DTV

Set up your business alongside your Thai partners. The business needs 2m baht registered capital and must officially employ 4 thais for every foreigner work permit. You can convert the DTV to a Non-B visa at an immigration office inside Thailand which allows you to hold the work permit

You can have more than one visa. Just tell the immigration officer to use that visa when you enter Thailand next
