What is the process and requirements for renewing a non-B visa and how does it affect my 90-day reporting in Thailand?

Hello, for the last few years I've been employed on a non-B/work permit issued through the BOI but last year I changed company and this company is not a BOI entity which means I am now back to the regular "Chaengwattana system".

There was a whole mountain of paperwork required last year to move out of BOI that I figured was a one-off but I guess not as it is repeating somewhat this year.

I haven't been in this system for quite a while so I have a few questions about the process that my HR is either unable to answer or can't explain clearly due to language barrier.

* My current stamp expires on 29th April.

* We went to Chaengwattana yesterday to renew the visa and I got a new stamp that is valid until the 23rd of April.

* On the 23rd of April I need to either give HR my passport to get the 1 year single entry stamp or else I need to go with them to Chaengwattana again and get my photo taken for the 1 year multiple entry stamp. (I know it's also possible to do this at the airport if necessary.)

* My 90 day report is due on 18th April.

What I don't understand is:

* Why did they only give me a 3 week stamp? Why couldn't I just get the entire 1 year renewal + multiple entry permit done in one go yesterday?

* Does my 90 day report counter reset back to 0 now that I had an immigration 'event' and the visa has been renewed or does that operate on a separate counter and I still need to file it now?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, who has transitioned from a BOI work permit to a regular non-B work permit, is seeking clarification on the visa renewal process and the 90-day reporting requirement. They received a short-term stamp valid for three weeks instead of a full year, which raised questions about the renewal process and the rationale behind the short stamp duration. They also want to know if their upcoming 90-day report requirement is affected by receiving a new visa stamp. The community provided insights on the renewal procedures at Chaengwattana, noting that the initial short stamp is standard for consideration processes and that the 90-day reporting deadline remains unaffected by the visa renewal.

And 1-year extension is not "single entry", it is with "no entry". You may not want to forget to apply for a single- or multiple re-entry permit when you get a whole 1-year extension.

It's the same mountain of paperwork now, year after year, all new documents, copies, etc every year,

That's not how the yearly extension process works for many types of extensions. At C/W you get a 21 day under consideration stamp, the paperwork is sent "upstairs" reviewed and you show up on the date your u/c stamp runs out and get the new year extension inked in

nope, your 90 day reporting has nothing to do with an "immigration event" ๐Ÿ˜ฎ (and you didn't renew ANY visa, you applied for a new yearly extension) Your 90 day report is due when it's due

If you have a 90 day report due the 18th you could certainly try the online system any time tomorrow or later

OR

You can file it on the 23rd when you go back to get the year extension inked in (you can file up to 7 days after the actual due date without a fine)
