Hi! Which visa(s) do I need?

I want to visit from the US for about 3 months to vacation and see if my allergies are going to be unbearable.

Then, back to US for a few months.

Then return to Thailand to teach English for 6months to 2years.

Advice, please? Thanks in advance!
Answer summary
The poster is seeking advice on the types of visas needed for a potential stay in Thailand for leisure and later to teach English. Comments suggest starting with a 60-day Tourist Visa that can be extended for an additional 30 days. For teaching, it's advised to apply for a Non-Ed Visa, which requires a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate. Additionally, a work permit is essential for teaching. The conversation highlights differing visa requirements, such as the Non-O Visa discussed in connection to age restrictions. Overall, the community provides insights into the importance of understanding visa types and length of stays related to teaching jobs.

3 month tourist visa.

Then when you get a job they will help you with a work visa. English contracts can be short and your visa is dependant on it. So you it going to get 2 years without a contract that long. You’ll have to keep it up as you go. Usually contracts are 3 months. They repeat them. But keeping you only 3 months at a time is beneficial for labour laws. Most don’t apply.

The air quality is very different in different parts and seasons. Make sure there are hiring schools in the area you chose to try. As one place might be ok. And another not.

Northern has a burning season. I would stay away from any areas near them as the air quality is bad during those months. Some areas.. very bad.

I am in Hua Hin. I don’t notice much of anything. And the little rain showers help.

Thailand is a huge diverse country.

I assume you don’t have a degree, in which case English teaching is long hours and low pay.

Melissa Batch no such thing as a 3 month tourist visa

Best to get a single entry tourist visa. You get 60 days and can extend it by 30.

Do you have a job offer yet? They will need to organise a work permit.

If you want to become a teacher you will have to apply for a non-ed Visa but Thailand requires usually a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate they may not recognize your credentials and your country of origin another route is the non B twhich is a business Visa, your best bet is to go and explore the country first based on your post seems like you want to go for 90 days to see if her allergies can withstanding living in this country

Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo You can't teach on a Non Imm ED visa. A Non Imm B visa and work permit are two of the main requirements

You get a 60-day Tourist Visa and, towards the end of the 60-day period, get a 30-day extension.

Of course, you don't need that long to find out about your allergies, but,,,,,,,,

Good day non-o 90 day Visa you can apply for it while you're in the US and it opens up the door to educational visas extension of stays, Muy Thai depending on your income and your situation you could apply for the long-term visas they have a 10-year LTR. Thailand just reduced its tourist extension of stay to 30 days which I believe you could possibly extend it another 30 days you can actually leave the country and go to Malaysia or Cambodia and come back and I believe get another 30 days but according to what I read you can only do two of those per calendar year correct me if I'm wrong I'm just trying to help people here

Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo you can't teach on a non-O, she needs a work permit for that.

It's a rolling 12 month period and not per calendar year. With the impending reduction in visa exemption it will be interesting to see how they treat the extensions part.

Darren Grist yes but it at least gets you into Thailand for 90 days as her post is asking

Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo No, after the change a visa exempt will get 30 days on entry plus a 30 day extension so not 90 days in the country. A tourist visa does this without a border bounce.

Kim Henley-Oarr if you do not have a university degree then you can not get a work permit to teach in Thailand. It doesn't matter what subject the degree is in, just that you must have a degree to get a work permit to teach. There are no legal exceptions to this.

Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo a tourist visa does the same, 60 days plus a 30 day extension

Alan Rothwell no you don't have to be over 50 to get a non-o Visa only if you're applying for a retirement Visa
