Keyword: „Marriage Visa“ and extension of stay

Hi guys.

I want to get married to my Thai girlfriend. We chose Hong Kong for this. The idea is: right after we get married in HK we go to the Thai Embassy in HK and get a Single Entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage.

We also will get it translated to Thai and notarized in HK.

With the original marriage certificate and the translated, notarized documents we will go to the immigration office in Bangkok to apply for an extension of stay (1 year). We have to do this at least 45 days before I have to leave the country again. 2 months before applying for the extension I have to put 400.000 Baht into a Thai bank account and leave it there.

After the application, we will be in a 30 days consideration period, where we will be visited by immigration officers. When everything is ok, I will get an extension for 1year, during which I have to do 90 days reporting. If I want to leave the country, I have to get a re-entry permit first.

1. Is that procedure correct?

2. Is there any known issue with getting the extension when not married in Thailand?

3. Can I get the re-entry permit at the airport before leaving (like with the SETV Tourist Visa) or do I have to go to immigration to get it?

4. Any more advice or tips on the whole procedure?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to marry their Thai girlfriend in Hong Kong and is asking for details on obtaining a Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage and subsequent extension of stay in Thailand. They seek confirmation on their process, inquire about potential issues with the visa due to their marriage location, ask about re-entry permits, and request additional advice on the procedure.

How about we just close this topic until you actually manage to get married to your thai g/f?

Once you have done that, come back and feel free to post about getting the Non-O visa (inside or outside the country) and we'll be more than happy to help you with it

Good Luck (y)

I don't think you will even be able to get a 90 day non-O from that consulate anymore. They really tightened up and were only issuing visas to actual residents of Hong Kong.

Enrico what's your nationality? Are you a resident of Hong Kong?

I do not see a Non O for Marriage to a Thai listed...

German. And not a resident of HK.

Now as far as what you will need to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage from the thai consulate in Hong Kong, the FIRST place you need to look for those answers is the thai consulate IN Hong Kong's website :O

Start here by selecting your nationality and then looking at the information

Yeah. I could not find the Non-O either. Which seems weird, that they would not offer that.

Only the Non Immigrant B, Non Immigrant ED or Non Immigrant O-A visa available if you have a German Passport.

Not many options.

Why Hong Kong to get married? Your profile says you're from Germany.

Easier. Less paperwork, less waiting time. Also internationally recognized.

If you are a Hong Kong citizen it might work

I just saw your other comment. You're right. I cannot see the Non-O on their page for German passport.

Yeah, but the visa part is what I talk about as this page is Thai Visa advice.

Anyone can get married in HK and it's internationally recognized in most country with an apostille. However, Thailand does not officially participate in this. But as far as I could find out, they do accept it if it's translated and notarized.
