1. Buy 60 day tourist visa from Australia

2. ใหม่ will rent house in Roi Et

3. Get Certificate of Residence

4. Acquire Thai bank account from Bangkok Bank and deposit 400k baht

5. Get married, update tabian baahn

6. Apply for 30 day extension visa

7. Wait until the money been in the Thai account for 2 months

8. Apply for O visa based on marriage

9. Apply for 1 year O visa extension

Are there any steps I’m missing or anything else we need to do?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user outlines a step-by-step plan to marry a Thai girlfriend and transition from a tourist visa to a marriage-based visa in Thailand, but seeks confirmation if any additional steps are needed. Various users provide both supportive advice and cautionary notes regarding bureaucratic processes like the TM30 form, the necessity of a prenuptial agreement, and considerations for acquiring residency and financial requirements.

And on that note, the O/P has all the information they need to be thoroughly confused.

Yep step 4.1 get prenuptial signed.

Step 4.2 set up and transfer assets to ltd liability company you are owner of.

and do mountain of paperwork every year and report to the police every 90 days happily ever after like a Police State, tied to your wife and her house happily ever after hoping things dont go sour, if you want that good luck

Yeah, for me, a long weekend in Laos, or Vietnam or Cambodia every couple of months sounds pretty good really, I’ve never been, good opportunity to learn to ride too perhaps 🙂 I’m sure it’d become a chore after a while but hey, gotta take the good with the bad. And yeah, maybe not 100% of your assets but if you know its a calculated risk, then don’t invest what you can’t afford to lose I guess.

@Matt ********
My paperwork never changes, same every year so just photocopied. then only thing I need to get is embassy letter verifying my pension which is easy to do and takes a week. 90 day report is a nice motorbike ride once every three months.As for things going sour, most men lose their asses anyway in UK and other "advanced" countries.

Mm, it does feel pretty excessive from an Aussie point of view. I assume its an attempt to preserve their culture and national identity

You will also need to have the landlord file the TM.30 form within 24 hours of you taking residence in your girlfriends home.

That’s great to know, ta!

Standard. All landlords (hotels too) must report a foreigner living at their property. That being said, only certain offices seem to care if you have one or not and, it is usually only needed when you do your 90 day report. For instance, in Chiang Mai, many people were suddenly fined when they started to enforce it. Whereas, so far, Bangkok offices don't fine. Here's a document sent to all the condos in my building.

TM30... never heard of that, I’d that difficult or just like, standard paperwork?
Soeren **********
When your gf renting house. she Should remember to tell the landlord that you also need to use the house book.

Those I knew as renting houses do not stand in the house book

Is that the TM30? What’s that about?

i will caution posters to stay on topic. This ain't the Everything Bangkok, or the Stupid Questions Chiang Mai group.

If you can't answer specifically about the O/P's plan of attack in a constructive way, don't answer at all.

I deleted some comments and replies, sorry.

Good one Tod Daniels . Love how all the “experts” have generally a low opinion of thais and their culture. Why go there then? Idiots.

You can get non immigrant O visa in Aus’ mate. No need for Thai bank account or 400k in bank.

I recently got spouse visa non imm O multiple entry in Brisbane.

Need Copy of thabian Baan, letter from spouse stating still together, marriage cert, and her ID. Mrs was in Thailand at the time and they accepted photos of letter and ID she emailed to me.

Took 2 days. Pretty easy really.

Suppose if you don’t want to leave Thailand the way you’re doing it is the way to go. But I’m in the merchant navy so have to Tavel back to aus to go to work every 3 months.

Bonus is not having to deal with Thai bureaucrats or line up for hours in immigration.

Oh cheers! Problem is, we’re not married yet, we were planning on doing that in Thailand. We were think maybe a 1 year multi entry visa from Australia instead of the 60 day tourist visa?
Tim *******
Oh and as far as dowry’s go. Fuck that. I paid nothing. Bought the pig and all the piss night of the ceremony in the village is all.
Joseph ********
why not just get an o visa in Australia to start with for 3months
Joseph ********
Good luck with your plans don't take notice of some moron remarks

Julia ************
Her name is ใหม่? 😅

Phi mai.
Julia ************
@Si *******
Yeah but that’s not the correct transliteration. My name isn’t pronounced with a rising tone. It’s middle tone for both syllables.
Si ********
จู๋ is rising tone
Julia ************
@Si *******
Hey, Ju is not rising tone!! But yes, there are a few Thais who call me Lia Joo for fun 😄.
Si ********
not as weird as Julia..จู๋เลีย= cock lick 😎😎
Julia ************
@Stephen ******
Ah, right. Didn’t think of that. But Mai seemed weird.
Stephen *******
It's a common Thai name. You never heard the name Lek or Noi?
Julia ************
It just means “new” so I wonder... normally it’s food or animals... or English names. Never heard of an adjective as a name.
