Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question ,but can anyone confirm or not that the maximum overstay fine at airport immigration is in fact still 20,000 baht ? A friend of mine is just about to head to the airport with said money, but the last thing he needs at this moment in time is being asked for 40 or 50,000 before he can leave the country.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The maximum overstay fine for those exiting Thailand is confirmed to be 20,000 baht, which applies after 40 days of overstay at a daily rate of 500 baht. If an individual overstays by 90 days or more, they may face a one-year ban, but this does not incur an additional fine.
