TLDR : Answer Summary
The proposed electronic travel authorization (ETA) for visa-exempt entries in Thailand is not yet officially implemented, as it is still under consideration and has not been approved by parliament. It aims to ease immigration procedures by allowing travelers to register online before their arrival, potentially reducing wait times at immigration. Various comments suggest that while it is similar to systems in other countries, there are concerns about its feasibility and user-friendliness, particularly regarding potential complications in the application process.

Another example on why it is important not to spread rumours in Facebook groups, until the proposals has been voted through the Thai Parlament, and is publiced in the Royal Gazette.

Maybe it will be delayed?

It won't be fun if algorithms are set rigidly and information entered isn't accepted by the system eg a thai address maybe misspelling...in philippines my hotel name repeatedly rejected...forces me to enter false information to obtain a QR code. Can you imagine paying $1800 for return flights to Bangkok only to be rejected 36 hrs before your flight? Registration is usually very close to scheduled departure date. Could really fuck up a lot of tourists if system isn't user friendly and flexible along with online human help.

also real worried that the system for some unclear reason rejects the application, and if supporting documents like return ticket, hotel reservations etc need to be uploaded it will add another layer of complexity to the travel

That is only up to date in December or January. Best to ask the crystal ball

Yes I just got one for india 🇮🇳. It's a pretty straight forward application 1 day and it's approved .25usd . But I think Thailand won't be charging of what I've read about it

Already available

As far as I know this is not approved/published, and still going through the government processes. and no definite starting date. many ideas are discussed, some get approved, some gets debated forever, some approved.

It is not a visa, the proposed ETA is a electronic travel authorization, and it is only a proposal at this stage, so don’t be too worried, a lot of countries have a ETA in place.
Ivan *******
Its like an pre approval. So the systems checks your eligibility prior to you flying into Thailand so there are no complications at the entry point in Thailand. This system was in place for Georgia, and few other countries, during Covid-19.

Any idea if any supporting documents need to be uploaded?

Pilot program, ETA

Nope

I read it’s just online information and it’s replacing non visa procedure. Where you now register online and you get to enter Thailand for 60 days and can extend for additional 30. But not in place or official just yet. It seems like a tracker to see who is coming in with no visa and how long they are actually staying.

ETAS visa the EU and GB starting its use as well that is unless you land in a Dinghy

good point

on the positive side, you'd know beforehand if you are refused entry. Compared to already being here after a possibly long flight, only to be refused entry for whatever reason.

@Simone ***********
it's just a travel Authority form and you get to bypass immigration and use the automatic passport machines so hopefully it gets you out of the airport quicker

@Dennis *********
just used the automatic gates out of Bangkok last week very good

@Michael *******

ETA and not approved by parliament as yet

It is not a Visa it is the possible piloting of an Electronic Travel Authorisation for Visa Exempt entries to reduce queues at Immigration
Stuart *********
It’s not a new e-visa. It’s an electronic travel authorisation. There is no official information about it yet. Wait for more information.

I applied for one through London embassy 13julythis yr cost £30 it was issued 2 days later the day the 60 day non visa came Into effort could have saved myself 30 quid the nice Thai lady IO asked me why didn’t just come in on 60 one I said story of my life laugh … she nearly fell off her seat
Bob *********
The message says e-visa nowt about OP in message unless my eyes decieve me
Stuart *********
@Bob ********
The OP was asking about the new ETA that may happen come December 1st. They are confused thinking it’s a new e-visa.

There are no confirmed details of what it may take to get one as yet, nor even if you’d actually need one.

If needed it would be for travelling visa exempt and wouldn’t apply for a person that has an actual visa to visit Thailand
Stuart *********
@Bob ********
You applied for a tourist visa via the London embassy. That’s completely different from what the OP is asking.
