FYI... Thai Cabinet APPROVED Thai Visa Changes... Tuesday May 19th. We watch the coming days for actual implementation. Will Post updates as known.

Thai cabinet approves to roll back 60 day visa exempt entry program to 30 days.

It says in the news reports that all countries revert back to their previous entry status.

That means

*if you were a visa exempt country before you still are

*if you were a "visa waiver" country before you are again

*if you were a VOA country you now buy a visa on arrival when you land

*if you were a 'need a visa to get into thailand' country you now buy a visa before you come here

One news source I read said this takes effect immediately BUT we honestly don't know.. All we can do is see if there are any further announcements.
Answer summary
The Thai Cabinet has approved changes to the visa exemption policy, reverting the duration from 60 days back to 30 days for tourists. Countries that previously enjoyed visa exemption status will revert to their earlier classifications, impacting the way tourists enter Thailand. Those needing a visa on arrival or pre-arrival visa application will now adhere to different regulations. The actual implementation date remains unclear, raising concerns among expats and tourists about the potential economic effects on Thailand's tourism sector, particularly in the wake of fluctuating entry regulations.

Biggest concern I saw was a report that it will be limited to only twice per year. That would require anyone who does multiple 30-day trips to get a tourist visa after 2 trips (instead of exempt)

It takes effect 15 days after the publishing on the Royal Gazette

huh? How. This only affects visa exemption entries. The dedicated tourist visas of 3 and 6 months still available and very easy to apply for.

Thailand had 30 days visa exemp like this during the peak tourism year 2019

Yes, will definitely have an impact on my plans. This winter I was there for 2 weeks and 6 weeks with rest of the time in Malaysia, Singapore, and Philippines. If they make it difficult to stay longer some people will just go where it is easier. Oh well, they have their plan.

the big money comes from us guys who live out here and hop around spend months at a time. I spend 3 to 4 k USD a month. This will affect the money not the problems. The problems are drinking short term tourist. More money more problems you can't have both.

Cambodia borders are closed Thailand just fked themselves lol if Cambodia borders where open visa runs no big deal they going feel this

even a small amount equals so much money. The problems are from partying and drinking not 60 day visa. Well see I wouldn't be surprised if they go back after 6 to 12 months this is going hit the economy hard. 10 percent of GDP relies on tourism they going feel this.

Majority of tourists don't come for more than 30 days, so no impact on them.

Not unexpected. When I saw the list of countries given 60 day exemption I knew it wasn't going to go well. Too many of them were countries with people that would not play by the rules, and anyone with a brain should know there wasn't enough population to sustain themselves for 60 days in Thailand.

It was a good run

But this is just another iteration of the ever evolving rules
