A 70 year old friend of mine is happily living in the kingdom, meeting all of his pension and bank requirements to stay. I know its slightly off 'visa' topic but his UK passport runs out next year. He is aware that he has to go to BKK to renew but is getting concerned about how long he will have to be in BKK. He is not a well man. Can anyone advise

TLDR : Answer Summary
Renewing a UK passport in Thailand involves applying through VFS Global located in Bangkok. The process typically requires two visits: one to submit the application and another to collect the new passport, taking about 10-14 days in total. For those unable to travel, such as the elderly or unwell, using an agent is advised to handle the process on their behalf. It's possible to apply for the renewal without making the trip to Bangkok if an authorized individual or agent submits the application and picks up the passport.

Just done mine and you have to make an appointment by email to do the application and was in and out in 10 minutes. 2 weeks later you go back to pick it up and again in and out in 10 minutes. You can also nominate someone to do on his behalf.

Or just pay an agent to do it for you.

Yes and No! if you are handicapped or too old ti make the trip, you can make a procuration and send someone else on bkk.

go to embassy, fill up documents, digital sign, they make pic, pay, ask them to sent you the passport, (80 bahts), you will receive at your home 3 to 8 weeks later, you will receive 2 EMS mails, one with passport, other with codes (just 1 hours in bkk embassy then he can go home)

. The British embassy doesnt renew passports and you dont send it to the UK. You retain your existing passport through the complete renewal process
Johnsuma ******
yes i know, embassy sent passport to uk its why its so long.

As Tod Daniels says, UK passport renewals are done via VFS in Bangkok and actually issued by HMPO in Liverpool. It has nothing to do with the British Embassy.
Tod *********
you don't renew a UK passport at the UK embassy :/ That is done by the company VFS Global like I said.

Just done mine Phil last month and it actually took 10 days. Check DHL have your correct email and phone number. They actually got my email wrong and luckily text me as well or else I would never have known it was ready to collect.

I just used Key Visa services in Pattaya and it all went well. I am based in Phangan and sent all docs via EMS...no travelling required.

Marks Sendinmachine provides reliable passport renewal service.

It's 2 visits to VFS, apply and collect. Takes about 2 weeks, however the good news for your friend is he doesnt have to go in person, an agent/anyone can apply/collect on his behalf, providing it's a straightforward renewal

He can use an agent and then he doesn't have to make the trip to Bangkok

UK passports are done at the Trendy Building on Sukhumvit Soi 13 by a company called VFS Global

Work thru this website and it tells how to do it. It takes about 10-14 days to get the new passport back
