TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking affordable soft power courses in Thailand and received various suggestions, including a 6-month Muay Thai class priced at 65,000 THB and a 2-week cooking course for 50,000 THB. Discussions hint at the possible need for ongoing proof of participation for visa requirements, with mixed opinions about the legitimacy and future of such visa categories, particularly the DTV Visa.

Bangkok on line language school.
Luit *****************
Do you really think you can get a visa for attending an on line language training?

You can do the training without a visa
Nick ************
Personally, the dtv is not for me.
Nick ************
@Luit ****************
I know someone who has done it.

sounds very stupid, but everybody can make mistakes
Nick ************
@Luit ****************
what sounds stupid? Who has made a mistake?
Luit *****************
@Nick ***********
it sounds stupid that an online language training with no need at all to be in Thailand can qualify for getting a visa. I think in that case they made a mistake with checking the application if the story is true and not fake news.

who knows? TIT!
Luit *****************
It sounds like you don't want to do a training or class but only want a visa...

That is not the meaning if this visa.

When it will be misused a lot like you want to do, I am afraid this visa will not exist very long in this form.

It is meant to attract people who can spend money in Thailand, not cheap charlies like you, who not even want to pay for a decent training.

@Luit ****************
its not for you to judge :-) everyone deserves his or her own karma based on their actions... Just focus on your own business and dont be judgemental
Luit *****************
@Karst **********
It is not a judgement, just a remark about how likely it is to be approved.

How about being a stock trader, thus can be done any where in the world
Danijal *********
@Stephen ***********
you have to provide a lot of documents and need a company registered for trading. I am a trader from Germany. In Germany trading is not an official business therefore I don’t need to register a company. They don’t approve the dtv visa under this circumstances + they want to see the last 6 months from your trades. It’s all about getting you to paying taxes in Thailand if you stay longer than 180 days
Luit *****************
@Stephen ***********
it should be possible, but I guess you need some prove you have clients for who you trade.
Stephen ************
@Luit ****************
the client is myself 😀

I tried that and wasted $650 in Canada

good to know, thanks

I am afraid that will not count as client. Be a remote worker for yourself sounds very tricky and is not really workcation.

But maybe you can get them tricked about it.

Book a doctor appointment online. Nothing to pay upfront.

Filip *******
@Kaler ******
Never sure to get DTV , depends on what embassy you go to. Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok has online appointment system.

@Kaler ******
if that's too much maybe prove that your a remote worker then otherwise why would u want a 5 year visa for a 2 weeks cooking class
Greg ********
@Paul ********
Some people are pouring scorn on the idea that immigration might want to see proof of continued participation in soft power activities going forward for an extension or re-entry. They seem to forget they did this with the ED Visa. Some people asked about progression and attendance. Not saying this will happen 100% but immigration can and do make these rules. In the case of Remote Workers it is much easier to fulfill this requirement without rebooking courses etc if required.
Packard *******
@Greg *******
It's almost a certainty that ongoing courses will be required by immigration.
Greg ********
@Packard ******
I am not a betting man but I would put a 1000 Baht on this 🙂 It is the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) who came up with the DTV and are issuing it. The Royal Thai Immigration Police are the ones who are responsible for policing extensions and re-entry. What is in it for them without being too blatant :-)

I have DTV as a freelancer, I'm 100% legit but I hate seeing people abuse the system. You qualify or you don't.
Gerry ********
@Packard ******
this is my only concern. That the chancers (and those consulates who sign off so easily) will result in some 'distaste' of the DTV and ruin it for the rest of us. I'm really trying to not be concerned, but posts like this are frequent and disturbing!
Greg ********
@Gerry *******
I have talked to a few middle class professional Thais. Some I used to work with at a large Japanese global company. The other a consultant with a post-grad from overseas. They both had the same complaints. Why can foreigners come here and work so easily while it is almost impossible for them and it costs so much. The other was why no minim income requirement and taxation on that amount. If they pay tax then why not others living here. At least they have heard of the DTV. Most Thais have not.

@Greg *******
In the famous vid with the interview of an immigration official about the DTV. He said proof of activity/funds will be required for extensions. Agree it is likely to be extended to immigration checks at the airport.
Roshni *******
@Andi **********
he didn't say they would required for re-entry though

I did not catch that bit of the interview. I was multitasking while watching and failing as usual. Will give it another watch. Thanks.

Yup - look at what happened with the abuse of the Volunteer Visa. "Big Joke" pretty much put an end to it. Now even legitimate charities and NGO's cannot get visas for their volunteers

For a 5 year visa it is not bad. People were paying much more for a 1 year Ed. :-) I can only see prices rising when suppliers realise the value of their offerings

@Ka***
, Muay Thai gyms are adding about 15-25k tuition for 6 months courses with flexible attendance.

As others have pointed out, be grateful you haven’t had to spend 40,000-75,000฿ for a ONE year ED visa. You’re already getting a hell of a deal.
