What are the alternatives to Bangkok Thai Cooking Academy for obtaining a DVT in Thailand, and what are the costs?

For those who have received a DVT going the cooking route, has anyone had success with a school in Bangkok apart from the Bangkok Thai Cooking Academy?

I thought I had initially seen courses in the $500 range that qualified for DVT, but now they’re over $1,000.

Yes, $1,000 is still a bargain for a 5 year visa. But there’s also the possibility that we’ll have to reup every 6 months, and leave the country as well. Those costs would certainly add up over 5 years.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the search for cooking schools in Bangkok that qualify for a DVT (Thai visa for those taking courses) aside from the Bangkok Thai Cooking Academy. The original poster notes increases in course prices, which have gone from about $500 to over $1,000, and expresses concerns about the potential need for visa renewals every six months, which could add to overall costs. Commenters suggest considering alternative courses, like Muay Thai training, or even medical treatments, while also highlighting the potential ongoing changes in visa regulations.

The cheapest, soft power I have found was Muaythai courses in bkk for around 550 usd.

It may be worth considering medical treatment or dental instead.

Has on-going dental work such as braces been accepted and by which consulates?

I am not sure, but I have seen somebody recently mentioned that they got it with a dental appointment but it was definitely more than one appointment planned. I think braces certainly would be a good option showing ongoing visits for a few years. Let me know if you get somewhere with that one as I have also been looking into that

Do you need a good cooking class and need a visa to have the possibility to attend the class or is the cooking class just an excuse to get a visa?

I was seeking different cooking class options, per my question.

That is an unknown unknown! A risk that needs to be recognised and the response managed. Governments change, officials and rules change. The aim of the visa was basically to improve the economy of Thailand through having people working here and spending. The soft power pretty much the same but spending on soft power options. It might be expected there are ongoing economic benefits in these areas.

Still, I’m interested in the cooking class options. For all the posts here, I’ve never seen anyone mention other schools, apart from the one I noted. Surely others have found different options they can share.

Anonymous participant Yeah there seems to be a shortage of cooking school options. I have only seen one in Bangkok..
