Hello everyone,

I have a DTV, and it’s now been close to six months, so I’ll need to leave the country to get another six months. My question is: what’s the best/safest way to do this? I’ve read that sometimes immigration officers can cause problems.

I’m a remote worker, so I don’t understand what the issue could be, but some people have reported being asked for proof of funds, etc. I also have sufficient funds but I don’t normally keep 15k in a current account, have most of it invested.

Do they really ask for proof of stuff again? Or are these reports mostly coming from DTV holders who are doing cooking courses, Muay Thai, etc., or who have something suspicious going on, such as being enrolled in a school with a bad reputation?

I was thinking of leaving the country for a few weeks to make it seem more “natural,” but then I’m thinking that my DTV has already been approved and allows me to stay, so could I just do a border bounce instead? Am I just worrying too much?
Answer summary
A DTV holder is seeking advice on the safest and most effective way to leave Thailand to extend their visa. They express concern about immigration officers potentially asking for proof of funds, despite having sufficient financial resources tied up in investments. The community offers various reassurances that there are generally no issues for remote workers with a DTV, advising to carry some cash, documentation of employment, and accommodation details to facilitate re-entry.

Don't be worried. Take the 20k with you and re-enter. With the remote worker DTV it's not a big deal and I entered Thailand approx. 8 times since I have it.

"Since you hold a valid 5-year DTV visa with approved remote work credentials, you don't need to worry too much. The stricter checks usually target soft-power categories (Muay Thai, cooking, etc.) or suspicious history, not genuine digital nomads.

However, to ensure a completely smooth re-entry (whether via a quick border bounce or returning after a short trip):

Carry at least 2**** THB equivalent in cash (standard immigration rule).

Keep a digital/printed copy of your DTV Approval Letter, Proof of Remote Employment/Income, and Bank/Investment Statements showing liquid funds just in case.

Ensure your return flight and hotel/accommodation details are accessible.

Make sure you have 20k baht or equivalent in cash when you return, and can show accommodation even if it's only for a couple of nights

I would print off your investment account statement, expect they won’t ask for it, and then if they do then hope they won’t notice it is liquid investments rather than cash. If they do notice then play dumb.

I would bring your work contracts too.

With all of that you should have zero problems.

Dante they are not allowed to ask for any bank statements, I don't know why still some people post this without any knowledge about Thai law
