I'm deciding if I should get a DTV or Non-Immigrant Visa Category "O" (Spouse/Family) - which i think has advantages over the DTV but I just can't find anything that states I can work remotely on it. I know I'm not likely to be stopped working at home but I'd rather be compliant. Anybody know the actual law?
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the eligibility to work remotely in Thailand on different visa types, particularly the Non-Immigrant Visa Category "O" (for spouse/family) and the Digital Work Visa (DTV). There is consensus that the Non-O visa does not officially allow remote work, while the DTV supports it. Some participants suggest alternative routes, such as setting up a business to obtain a work permit. The conversation stresses the importance of matching visa types to one's long-term living plans in Thailand.

One thing I’d consider beyond just whether remote work is permitted is which visa actually matches how you plan to live in Thailand long term.

DTV is designed around remote workers/digital nomads and gives a lot of flexibility, while a Non-O based on marriage/family has a different purpose and ongoing requirements.

I’d compare the extension requirements, financial requirements, length of stay and re-entry rules as well — not just the ability to work remotely. Those differences can matter more over several years.

In order to do that with the cheapest setup costs, and regulations, being that you are married to a Thai, is to set up a business in partnership with your spouse. By doing this it will only cost you bt1million in registered capital in the business, and only have to hire two Thai employees, in order to qualify for your work permit, which you can get on a type O extension based on Thai spouse. By setting up a business, and paying your Thai income taxes, you can work remotely legally on a type O extension.

only if you work for the company that is mentioned in your work permit.

I considered that but too much effort... I don't need a work permit with the dtv, maybe if the dtv starts giving me problems I'll look at that route

Officially, you are only allowed to work remotely with a DTV or an LTR visa.

He thinks you aren't allowed to work remotely if you apply via soft power for a DTV. Which is purely his opinion only
