Hi,

Can someone help me, so me and my boyfriend are planning on going back to Thailand by the end of the year (He's from the UK) and I'm Thai/Canadian

We'll be traveling out of Toronto and just need some advice and a step by step. If anyone has gone through this experience already, what do you recommend is the best way? We were thinking of getting my boyfriend the STV (Special Tourist Visa)

All advice would be much appreciated!

(P.s What travel insurance do you recommend for travelling to Thailand?) *For my UK boyfriend, not for me as I'm a Thai Citizen*

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai/Canadian citizen and her UK boyfriend are planning to travel to Thailand and seek advice on the best visa options available for him. Due to current restrictions, the STV (Special Tourist Visa) is not open to British citizens if traveling from Canada, and it is advised to contact the nearest Thai embassy for accurate information. Other visa options were discussed, including the Single Entry Tourist Visa for her boyfriend if he does not meet the requirements for STV. Additionally, travel insurance recommendations for him were requested.

Thanks, everyone for the information, it's still a little confusing though. Can't find any information if my boyfriend is eligible for STV (since someone said STV isn't available for Canada) and it's hard to contact the Vancouver Embassy, as they're line is always busy

@Ta**
You have to be a legal resident of the country you're applying in for the STV. The STV is not available in Canada or to Canadian passport holders.

He's a UK passport holder, so I'll have to call the embassy and see what he's eligible for:)

@Ta**
Any visa that doesn't have a residency requirement. STV, METV, and Non-OA visas have residency requirements. If he doesn't have a job in Thailand, isn't over 50, and isn't attending university the only thing he'd be eligible for is a Single Entry Tourist Visa.

Honestly, Tara, just contact the thai embassy in Canada, if your in TO maybe they have walk in hours. Your not going to get any relevent information here. Your going to have to contact them regardless at some point.

The embassy in Toronto is apparently permanently closed down.

@Sh**
Nice way to be "relevant."

@Shea ******
the consulate in Toronto closed down permanently back in July. You can only contact the Consulate in Ottawa or Vancouver now.

Visa first

Unless your boyfriend is a permanent resident of Canada he cannot apply for a visa from the consulate in Ottawa.

this is for the single entry tourist visa for Thailand. I have no clue what it is for Canada and this is not the right group for that.

Yeah, I've read a lot about the tourist visa but it's too short for us. As we want to go live there and look after my mother, that's why we want to get on something that would allow him to stay for many many months

STV not available from Canada
Michael ********
British Citizens cannot get STV at present for some odd reason you have to come from country with low covid rates as designated by Thai Authorities

Is this still in place, even if we haven't lived in the UK for a year. We've both been working in Canada:)

@Tara *****
he can 100% get a 2 month TR (tourist) visa and then later extend it for another month (1900 baht). Then, after the 3 months In Thailand, he can then further extend by changing his visa to an education visa (learning Thai, Muay Thai etc), for a further 6 months or 1 year. Those visas are 20,000 for 6 months and 35,000 for 1 year. Or even get a volunteers visa, many of which can be free. But he would actually have to do the learning or volunteering as it can be checked.

STV has a $15,000 in savings requirement, which you have to show consistently saved for 6 months and show bank statements to prove it. TR visas, you need to show $30 dollars for every 2 months worth of stay, $1,800...

@Ka***
Financial requirement was removed from the STV. Also, ED visas have not been issued for non university level schools since June.

Karim Zalaf Romano I do not think they are issuing ED visa for language schools etc at the moment. A dodgy volunteer is available
