Hi Guys,

Scottish guy here, I married a Thai national back in June of this year. I'm going back to Thailand 26th December what is my best option in regards to visa? I was going to apply in Scotland for my Tourist Visa then once in Thailand apply for a Non O Visa. Is this the best option as advised to me previously? I was told that less paperwork was asked for at the IO in Thailand compared to the Uk. Also I want to bring my wife back to the UK after our holiday in Turkey does anyone know how long it takes to get a tourist visa for the UK. She is pregnant at the moment but our child will be born by this time.

Many Thanks In Advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Scottish national married to a Thai citizen is seeking advice on the best visa option for returning to Thailand. He plans to apply for a Tourist Visa before transitioning to a Non-O Visa, as suggested due to potentially less paperwork in Thailand compared to the UK. Additionally, he intends to bring his pregnant wife to the UK after their holiday, inquiring about the timeline for obtaining a UK tourist visa, with responses indicating approximately one to two weeks for processing and the necessity of submitting applications in person.

offers an excellent service. Although for a straightforward visitor visa it's easy enough to do yourself.

I don’t have any experience of asking for a Thai to go to the uk ,but it’s not as easy as people are suggesting ,

The paperwork has to be super accurate and I personally do know Scottish people of high financial incomes who have been refused uk visas for their loved ones and its getting worse,

They were all genuine relationships .

They were all way above the minimum financial requirement ,in fact the families I know would have been in the top 5 % of UK earners .

The paperwork is down to interpretation by the officer reading it ,so be prepared to loose money on your application as all applications are non refundable and be prepared for your application to be rejected

But I wish you all the best and hope you do get accepted first time

I've done it twice and I'm submitting my 3rd one next week. It's very straightforward if you have a genuine relationship, if you can show that you have enough money to cover the cost of the trip and, most importantly, there is a reason for the applicant to return to Thailand. The last one is the one that can cause a problem, if the applicant has no job or no property, and the sponsor lives in the UK.

She can get a visa in around a week after all paper work is submitted

Don't forget you will need to get a passport for your baby as well, if the baby is coming back too.

Getting a UK tourist visa for your wife will only take around 2 weeks. She will have to submit the application and supporting evidence in person at VFS in Bangkok.

You can get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao with minimum paperwork and no proof of financials.

Going the 90 day Non-O and then a yearly extension based on marriage inside the country is more time consuming and requires a lot more paperwork PLUS proof of either 400K baht banked for 2 months or 40K baht a month in income by a letter from your consulate.

Because this is a visa group for thailand I dunno what's involved with taking a thai to another country sorry :/
