TLDR : Answer Summary
When re-entering Thailand with a DTV after completing your soft power activity, community members suggest that the safest answer is to state you're on holiday (Option A) rather than claiming you plan to find another course (Option B), as the latter could lead to further questioning about your enrollment. Some emphasize the importance of being truthful while highlighting that having proof of ongoing activity—like enrollment in a new course—can bolster your credibility during entry. Overall, honesty about your situation and having sufficient funds are critical points to support your re-entry.
Settle it once and for all, Which is the safest answer to give?
Two options.
Option 1: Follow the NEW Thai Immigration rules set by DTV holders afraid to use their name: LIE about everything, AVOID at all cost to explain you work while having a DTV based on soft power or spouse/children.
it is LEGAL according anonymous dtv holders, it is LEGAL because dtv holders demand, BUT do not tell as the Thai Immigration does not agree with anonymous dtv holders rules and regulations. So lie and lie again to a Government, the best option to have a nice life.
Option 2: Tell the truth, you made your choice of visa, you made your choice of short term course, if questions are asked you tell them why you did as you did.
Benefit of the truth, you will remember next time what you have told.
Can you be denied entry, YES according section 12 , 2 or 3 or 9.
I will not react to the anonymous people claiming this letter is made by AI and the Thai Government does not have an Immigration Act,
If you want to ignore the Thai law, feel free to do and face the consequences.
I inform others, each and every one are free to read, follow or ignore.
DTVPeckerBeggar I not understand, people visit Thai visa agents, get documents from Thai cooking schools or Muay Thai gyms and they do NOT have any visa.
So again why are you so upset that a person give advice about Immigration rules without having the same visa as you?
I learned about the rules and like to share them, you do not have to read or react if you do not like that people get advice.
There isn’t a “best script” that works every time. The safest answer is the truthful one that matches what you can explain if they ask follow‑ups.
If your soft power activity has already ended and you’re returning without a new course booked, then Option A (“I’m here for a holiday / to travel and spend time in Thailand, and I have sufficient funds”) is usually safer than saying you’ll “find another course,” because that can trigger “which course/where/when?” questions you can’t support yet.
If you have any remote income, perhaps it’s better option…
I would just say extended holiday, if that is what you do. Always be honest. You have already done the class which was a requirement to be granted the visa and you are allowed to enter and leave as pleased for the 5 year validity period for the visa. That is probably why it was created in the first place, to make people with money come spend them in Thailand.
Anonymous participant Wrong. Under Immigration Act B.E. 2522 Section 36, visas can be revoked if their conditions no longer exist. Divorce immediately invalidates a marriage visa for example, there’s no rule saying otherwise for a DTV, there is no fact.
Anonymous participant How did you obtain a DTV? Under what condition did you obtain it and not another visa? By proving you're enrolled in a Soft power. Here is your condition or visa purpose. It's not about requirements or other rules that apply later.
Anonymous participant And nothing saying you don't need it. What will then you answer to the IO? You're on holidays under a Muay Thai visa but don't do Muay Thai? You're still doing Muay Thai? Okay, prove it.
There are no interrogations for DTV holders. Thailand already knows who you are. The post is designed to cause unease for soft power DTV holders who are no longer enrolled upon a qualifying course. There are certain people obsessed with the thought that others are getting away with something.
Holiday, explain how your going to one place then meeting friends in another - then bike riding in chiang mai. Then back down south for the full moon party. Tell a story so fantastic that the IO gets lost in your English language and bids you on your way. You will sound like a tourist who has money to spend and that’s exactly the kind of tourist they like.
This is the 10k IQ move: always have a relationship and be in touch with your soft power class. So you can get a “still in class/another class/renewal letter” much cheaper to free. This way you always have your tools “ready”
Anonymous participant There is no point for them in doing it for free. The day a real crackdown happens, like it did with ED visas, they will be the first to deny any relationship with you if you haven’t paid for a new course. An owner friend may arrange it, but not on a large scale.
It always struck me a strange that you could get a 5-year tourist visa where you supposedly can stay 180 days because you once took a cooking course.... I mean even if you're learning to be a chef it's not like you're going to be taking courses every time you travel to the country...
To practice Muay Thai (or whatever soft power activity you chose).
That may be enough.. if they probe further and enquire about the course, I would probably say when I arrive back this time, I will enrol again or find a new school or move to a new location and find an new school etc.
I wouldn’t mention a vacation as that could give them grounds to just stamp you in with the visa exemption..
surely not? Because I think that would cancel your DTV and I don't think they can cancel it, they can just refuse entry (not sure though, confirm this)
