What is the best approach for securing housing in Thailand on a tourist visa while applying for the DTV?

We are looking to relocate to Thailand via the DTV soft power, ideally in May-June. We have the required funds and stable online income. Our plan was to go for 60 days under tourist visa, look at different areas and decide where we'd fit best as well as locating schools in that area. Then possibly flying to Vietnam to apply for the DTV. What do you do for housing without actually having a long term visa? Just rent short term, pay for classes and hope for the best? Just wondering everyones experiences, and recommended course of action.

So our lease was up in October of 2024 . And our landlord said they'd do month to month for us . But that fell through I was also pregnant . And we didn't want to wait until baby was old enough to fly comfortably . On top of switching doctors . My older daughter also has mental health issues so we also didn't want her to continue seeing a specific doctor in Vegas . So we flew here end of December . Stayed in a hotel bnb for 2 weeks .

We contacted global travel mate (you tuber ) he got us in contact with sukhimivit homes out here in Bangkok we found an apartment . We are renting now .

We were planning on the DTV spouse and children . Bit we're turned away from that option as it's extremely expensive . I know people say all surrounding countries are different . But we've reached do it to them and they have responded with each individual no matter the age needs to have 500k baht . We met a gentleman that said a business visa would probably work out better for us . My husband is an engineer so we're looking at a few other options . Going to speak with a lawyer and a agent who were recommended by the same people who helped us with our apartment .

You may get lucky but just depends on what type of dtv visa you are applying for . And how many people are in you family .

We're a family of 5 we were told we needed $75,000 usd to apply for the dtv . Best of luck

Apply for DTV in your homecountry where they are familiar with most supporting documents, so less danger of being rejected.

Also you will same money staying in the comfort of your home, in stead have travelling expenses to go to a 3. country, and pay for staying at hotels for the duration of the visa proces.

Best to apply for DTV from your home country. If it's not approved when you get here that's ok, you can use it on a border bounce return. Fight EVO360 Thailand - Thepprasit Boxing Stadium does great for the muay Thai option, all forms sent same day and reasonable. Very knowledgeable on DTV visa.

You do not need a long-term visa to rent in Thailand. There are plenty of short-term options. I rent aparthotels, monthly Airbnb's. Rent hub is a good short term accommodation site, The 60-day visa exempt is going to end, the date not decided yet, so you need to keep an eye on that.

I did see that about the 60 day being reduced. I guess my question is, how common is it for someone to pay 3 months at a property and then get denied and cant actually move in?

Anonymous participant Once you come to Thailand, you can hire a Thai lawyer to guarantee the successful outcome of the DTV application. It's around 10k what I have seen on facebook.

Anonymous participant You are planning to pay 3 months before you get approved for the DTV ? You do not need to pay 3 months upfront for the DTV. i

Anonymous participant You should come here book a hotel for a week or so then find longer term accommodation by looking at it first. meeting owner/agent.
