TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the intention to apply for a DTV visa for expatriation in Thailand, specifically seeking information on Thai schools in Hua Hin that can provide an invitation for this visa. Community members suggest that the DTV visa may not be suitable for long-term residency, advising on alternatives like the Non-O visa and emphasizing the necessity of periodic travel outside Thailand if using DTV. Recommendations include contacting TLC Language School for assistance and considering the specific visa requirements based on personal circumstances.

you don't need to use a Non-OA visa, you can use a Non-O which has no insurance requirement. Unless of course you are planning a trailing spouse and your embassy won't issue on a Non-O visa, if they will it's by far the easiest way to go

mentioned, DTV is not intended for residents.

DTV is great, but it's still necessary to leave the country periodically.

Since you already have a house there, may I ask what visa you have used until now?

If you do get the DTV and choose to extend the visa in order to stay up to 360 days, then be aware that you will almost certainly need to prove you are still attending the Thai school and have the required funds.

DTV is not the best for everyone.

Good luck.

everyone has different levels of risk tolerance. I travel a lot, so the DTV is perfect for me. Someone who wants to be in Thailand 364 days a year? Maybe not so much.

agreed 👍

lol the truth is no one knows what the extension criteria will actually be since we still have 2-3 months before the first ones are applied for. My guess is it will be super lenient as with the current tourist visa extensions, but who knows?

true, but why take the risk? People who have long leases and plan to live in Thailand need some sort of assurance.

thank you to you, we are going to settle there for the long term from November, for the moment we were going there on vacation, at worst we will do the OA visa but the dtv over 5 years and without compulsory insurance, it is not wrong

it's a great visa, but you need to qualify for it. Unless you leave Thailand at least every 180 days, you'll need to keep proving your bank balance and Thai language course.

I you arrive in Thailand with a visa exemption, or tourist visa, you can then get an O visa in Thailand and avoid the insurance requirement.

Anyway, up to you. Good luck!

you don't need the Thai language course for the visa. You just need to prove that you have income outside of Thailand and that you have the funds. That's it. The DTV isn't tied to a course or school. It is made for freelancers and remote workers.

proof of income outside is not enough, it should be income generated by remote working or a freelance job as that is where the visa is made for as you also say.

You need documents from your employer that you work remotely, or in case of freelancer, the documents have to be provided by your clients.

I'm sorry, but that's not correct.

The standard government DTV flyer spells it out.

No matter on what basis you apply for the DTV, there is no requirement to prove income. You definitely need to prove that you already have enough money to fund yourself. Apart from that, you also need to prove that you are engaged in remote work, or required to be in Thailand for a specific purpose, such as education, sport training, medical treatment, etc.

They basically want you to justify that you are busy with something other than working in Thailand and that you're self-sufficient.

you are right on the courdes. But it is not necessary to be enrolled to have the visa. You just need the funds check this video

I've seen it. Watch and listen carefully from this timestamp:

You need to meet the criteria. For remote work, you need to prove employment or that you're actually engaged in work, but there is no requirement to show any actual income from that work.

The DTV is not really the correct visa to use to go and live in Thailand.
