TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has 800,000 baht in a Bangkok bank and is considering a non-OA visa while inquiring about suitable health insurance options, notably AIA. Comments suggest that since the user has sufficient funds, a non-O visa may be more appropriate, eliminating the necessity for specific insurance from approved companies. Several users recommend opting for a non-O visa instead of non-OA, emphasizing better long-term residency options with general advice on health insurance and experience with AIA.

I am also applying for the OA Visa and found Falcon insurance to be well priced however the cover is limited. It does enough to satisfy the visa requirements.

I would prefer to get a non O Visa but understand there may be difficulties opening a bank account on a non O Visa

You can get a Thai Bank acc

If you have an approved Non-O in your home country .

Sadly it may take some time going from bank to bank

there's no difficulties opening an account when on a non-O. The non-OA doesn't require a bank account but is linked in date to the insurance. Which can be costly and not very good.

@Lynnette ******
we have just received OA. It allows to open an account. The insurance wasn’t that expensive.

@Faye ******
may I ask did you need to see a specialist visa Dr to obtain your medical certificate? My local Dr refused to do it and has referred me to Bupa Visa Medical service - will likely cost $1000 Aus to have all the tests
Lynnette *******
@Alison *********
I don't think you need the tests. I think most just sign you off on the form. Ask again on here for others solution to the medical form.

@Faye ******
I know you can open an account with a non-OA. But it's insurance linked. So the visa is valid to insurance date.

@Lynnette ******
thanks for your reply- the non O Visa process is much simpler - I need a Thai bank account to finalise my brother’s estate ( he died whilst residing in Thailand)
Lynnette *******
@Alison *********
Get the non-O. Go open a bank account asap once you arrive. Might need to check what paperwork they want. If you have a Thai friend can go with you that helps. The point us with Non-O you'd need to deposit 800,000 tbt to get the one year extension. If that's the time you'd need. The non-OA doesn't need the money in thailand. So it may suit you. I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's death. What a terrible time for you.

Get the Non-O visa. Much better.

You don’t really need to have a yellow house book, but it is convenient.

I’m working with AIA also. About to sign up. The agent has been amazing walking me through it. I can send you her info if it helps you
Dennis *******
Your coverage would be upto 60M Bhat in a year. Correct as I understand it.

I recommend you contact Bo.

She will go over the details

@Dennis ******
how much cover doez the policy give you. What is the maximum monetary cover do you think will be enough to cover the most expensive operation. Does it cover in/out patients and cancer cover. Are the hospitals paid direct by the insurer Many thanks
Dennis *******
@Grant ********
I had all those questions. I’ll provide the agents contact. I recommend you set up a call on WhatsApp with her.

I’ll answer what I can.

You must get a minimum of 25 m Bhat coverage bc your getting LTR Visa. That’s the minimum.

I’m getting the 60m Bhat coverage bc it covers World Wide coverage and I want the best coverage in case of cancer or heart issues as I age.

60 M cost 103 thousand Bhat

The 25M cost 72 thousand Bhat.

Many hoops to jump through to get this.

I can forward the emails with broshure if you DM me your email. Happy to help

I have a house in Thailand that requires me to have a long-term visa before I can get the yellow house book. I was denied a tourist visa, but I don't know about non o

@Bjorn **********
Why were you denied a tourists visa?

@Daren *******
I mean I was denied to get the yellow house book because I only had turist visa. They said I need long term visa like retirement visa
Matthew *********
@Bjorn **********
what Alice country to deny a yellow book when you paid for it. Thank god western countries don't apply this stupid concept.

AIA is of very good quality and

Bath cheap.But with a smaller sum insured and not too much daily allowance for the bed, this price is possible. Maybe the death sum reduced to a minimum fits so far,then this premium is possible with 53 years
Timothy *******
@Andreas ********
That sounds pretty cheap to me I have looked at a couple and for decent coverage you are looking at about 70,000bht roughly
Martin *********
@Timothy ******
which company 🤔. Thanks.

I just replied to the post and said

sounds very cheap..There are then only minimal insured sums included.

Jeg har et hus i Thailand som krever at jeg har langtids visa før jeg kan få den gule hus boken. Jeg ble nektet med turist visa, men jeg vet ikke med non o

The Non O is also a long-stay visa. If you plan to stay in Thailand for more than 90 days, you only need to extend your stay by one year at immigration and present either an income confirmation from our embassy or proof of funds in your Thai bank account. It’s ok to first enter on a Non O-A for a year or two if you wish and use the insurance that seems advantageous, but if you intend to stay in Thailand long-term, it’s better to later switch to a regular 90-day Non O. That way, you won’t be tied to the somewhat restrictive health insurance approved by Thai immigration for the rest of your stay.

Ikke så gunstig på Non O-A dersom du planlegger å oppholde deg i lengre tid i Thailand. I såfall bedre å søke på et vanlig Non O
@Bjorn **********
som det pekes på med fortsatt mulighet til å inntektsbekreftelse fra ambassaden eller penger på bank i Thailand og forlenge oppholdet i Thailand med den helseforsikring du vil.

@Jan *****************
that's exactly what I got. No mandatory health insurance required. Good
Lynnette *******
That's weird. You've got the 800k so just get the non-O. The O-A isn't what you need.
Brandon ************
If you already have 800,000 in a Thai bank, why would you get a non-OA visa? The entire point of the non-OA is so you don't have to keep money in a Thai bank, but instead have to buy insurance. If you have the money in a Thai bank, then get a non-O and you no longer have to get the insurance from the special list of companies.

@Brandon ***********
I already have OA visa since 2023 and I keep 800k+ in Thai bank since then. Can I switch to Non-O inside Thailand or I would need to go back my country, lose the OA and start from zero ?
Brandon ************
@Álex *******
you'd have to leave Thailand without a re-entry permit and then either purchase a new 90-day non-O from a nearby Thai embassy or return as a tourist and convert to the 90 day non-O at your immigration office. If you're truly planning on Thailand for the long haul, you should do it. You can even time it to make your yearly extensions fall at the most convenient time for you (perhaps low season?).
Alan *******
@Brandon ***********
are you saying that if you have a non-OA you don't have to keep banked money at all and don't have to keep monthy xfers either? I had understood the OA was inclusive of both bank _and_ insurance. I have a non-O and i also have insurance because it's good to have.
Ivan ************
@Alan ******
you need money in a Thai bank to extend the OA, same as the O. But the initial visa is a 1 year multi entry with 1 year stamp. People who don't want to move money into Thailand get 1 year out of the initial visa, then re-enter at the very end of the year while the original visa is still valid to get another 1 year stamp. This gets them basically 2 years. Then they go back home and get another one, and repeat.
Brenda *********
@Brandon ***********
of the OA requires the insurance, does it have to be full coverage or can it just be inpatient coverage? Thank you.
Brandon ************
@Brenda ********
the requirements are very specific. Check your embassy for requirements on the coverage and which companies it must be from
