American. 62.

Married to Thai. Applying for OA visa in USA. Will be coming back to USA about 1-2 times a year for just a few weeks at a time.

What’s company do u recommend for my medical insurance for visa purposes? Seems like there is a lot online.

I’m in fairly good health. No existing conditions. Cholesterol is normal. Blood pressure normal. Not taking any meds.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expat, aged 62 and married to a Thai national, is seeking recommendations for medical insurance related to his OA visa application while in the USA. He is in good health with no existing medical conditions and plans to return to the US a couple of times a year. Responses from the community suggest several insurance options, including using Bangkok Insurance for its affordability and ease, checking out AXA for solid coverage, and visiting Mr Prakan for policy comparisons. Some participants advise considering insurance from the home country and alternatives like annual travel insurance.

why not just voa?

because returning to the US for a few weeks a year you cannot stay in Thailand without a long term visa without issues

US citizens are not eligible for VOA.

I can get a “Visa Exempt” though.

The insurance is useless. What you’ll collect in claims is little more than self insurance. If you can keep insurance from your home country, annual travel insurance, and accident insurance if they will sell it to you, its better. Get Non O visa

Have a look on Mr Prakan for all your Thailand insurance requirements

You can compare policies and prices in it from the leading providers

Solid insurance is AXA. Check it out here

but then u gotta transfer 800,000 baht and keep it tied up for ever.

(Or 400,000 w Marriage visa).

I’ll give it more thought for the marriage visa as I already have 400,000 baht in my Bangkok Bank.

With the OA I can keep my money in USA banks like Schwab.

Plus, I think it’s really risky not having medical insurance. Granted it’s only for emergencies BUT if it happens it could really cost a lot. Don’t know how people can travel to Thailand and not have insurance for the major medical stuff?

Dave Goodman the insurance won’t cover much I was told by immigration to drop my OA and start over with a non-o then you can buy any insurance you like but up to you

My Thai embassy in Chicago is stating 3,000,000 baht in a Thai bank for the OX. Unfortunately our USA embassies won’t give us funds documentation, therefore we gotta put up the money in Thailand for the OX.

look at the OX instead of the oa

not sure I want to tie up 3M baht in a Thai bank? If I understand correctly it needs to be in a Thai bank, not a USA bank?

@Dave ********
via our Sydney consulate but Canberra is different lol so we go via Sydney consulate

I have OX and did not need it in Thailand bank I only showed letter of employment and 3 payslips

I used Bangkok insurance for my OX cheaper and easier to deal with than axa
