What happens to my DTV visa if I switch to a work permit and if I change employers?

Hi everyone,

I already have a DTV visa with about 4.5 years remaining, and I’d like to ask a couple of questions:

1. If I find a job in Thailand and need to switch to a work permit / non-immigrant visa for about 1 year, what happens to my DTV visa? Does it get automatically canceled, or does it remain valid so I can use it again after the work visa expires?

2. What happens if I already have an active DTV visa but change employer without changing the nature of my work? For example, if I leave my current remote job, stay unemployed for a short period, and then find another remote job (not based in Thailand), possibly with a company in another European country or elsewhere, would this affect my DTV status in any way?

Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post addresses concerns about the implications of switching from a DTV visa to a work permit in Thailand and how changing employers may affect current visa status. The consensus indicates that obtaining a work permit requires the cancellation of the DTV visa, which cannot be paused and is permanently invalidated upon the issuance of another visa. On the other hand, changing jobs or working remotely for a company outside of Thailand may not impact the DTV visa, though it is advisable to secure documentation from the new employer to avoid any potential issues.

I submitted my Non-B visa application online a few days ago and have kept my DTV active, which still has about four years of validity remaining. If my Non-B application is rejected, I will continue using my DTV. If it is approved, my DTV will be automatically canceled.

If the job is in Thailand you need to cancel dtv and you have to have all the necessary dokuments, graduate certificate etc to get work permit

1) You will have to cancel the DTV and it is gone forever. There is no pause button.

2) Changing jobs should have no effect on anything. I would however suggest you get a letter from the new company stating you are allowed to work remotely from Thailand. There is a 95+% chance you will never be questioned or asked to prove anything, but it's just a letter so why not have it, just in case?

1- If you get any other visa, your old visa or DTV will be automatically cancelled.

2- If you change your company (outside of Thailand) it won’t effect your current DTV visa.

1. You need to contact the embassy that issued your DTV and request cancellation. This process is easy with some embassies (the embassies that reply to email).

2. I don’t think you need to do anything.

I think you have to cancel your DTV visa before applying for another visa.
