Hi, wondering if anyone been in this situation: You plan to find a job in a school or whatever, and what if you already took an ED visa, so if you happen to get a job while being on an ED visa, is that ED visa nullified then, if you get a working visa from your employer? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are on an ED visa and find a job, your ED visa will not automatically be nullified. Initially, while on the 90-day entry of the Non-ED visa, you can stay but cannot work until it expires. Once it expires, you must leave the country and apply for a Non-Immigrant Type B visa to work legally, and your employer will also need to secure a work permit for you.

first off there is no such thing as a 'working visa'. :/

The way it works is;

IF you are on the initial 90 day entry of the Non-ED visa you got for attending school you can stay (BUT not work) until that 90 day stamp runs out. Then you would go out of the country and get a new 90 day Non-Immigrant Type B <-(B means business) visa so you can work AND your employer would get you a work permit too.

Where as IF you are on an extension of stay on an ED visa you would take paperwork from your school to the immigration office cancel your extension, leave the country and get a 90 day Non-B visa.

Talk to your new employer and the school you paid 33k. Maybe it could be arranged in a way you can still follow the lessons and learn what you paid for.

Your 33k is sunk money. There are no refunds for visas and since your visa was only 2k the language school or agency that took your money is unlikely to refund the other 31k.

.

Unless you want to work illegally on a visa that has "Not legal to work" printed on the face of it you need to cancel, exit, get your new non-B and work permit based on your new job.

Thanks Tod. But then I would have already paid 33,000B for the ED visa.
